From Central's website:

QuoteGavin Hierseman (sophomore, West Branch) saw time in a more limited role and Cooper  Downs (sophomore, Ames) emerged as a serious contender after transferring to Central for spring semester.

"They all went through the spring and competed," McMartin said. "They were able to get a lot of reps. Brady got a lot of experience last year. Cooper came in as a transfer but all of them have shown some good skill sets. They've learned our offense and they're going to get a lot of opportunities this fall."

Don't look for dramatic changes in the Dutch offense regardless of who takes the snaps. Ketchum, Downs and Hierseman are capable runners.

Guess Central's Coach could have had a roofing job open up this summer.  :) Some of you may get that.

Big question: who's is #2 at QB? Last year we were pretty set at 1, 2 and 3. With Cooper Downs transferring there appears to be a major hole.

I just noticed one of our first U$T transfers: Kristoff Kowalkowski. Not a big surprise...he's from Sartell via Tontino Grace. I believe his dad is a Johnnie.

How has Poppa Kowalkowski not found his way to this board yet?  He was tons of fun on gopherhole pretending to be a neutral third party that was just so impressed with Kristoff and hated all the Gopher QB recruits.  He's also taking shots at the Tommies on twitter on the way out.  https://twitter.com/DrKowalkowski/status/1557853600319242240

Who was the guy a number of years ago that was always name-dropping?  Snoop Dawg or something?

Saw on twitter Carleton players reported for camp today. Hearing 80+ kids which is the biggest roster they've ever had. Roster includes a handful of 5th year seniors. Program trending in the right direction.

I found snoop dawg entertaining (he played a pro-am with tiger woods, you know) because he didn't have a kid at SJU and wasn't a rumoured alumnus.  This could prove more challenging.

Yeesh.... I hope this dad knows that he has Aaron Syverson to watch for at least another year (possibly two) before having a shot to start as a junior/senior? I mean, I don't see the QB position being in question this fall.

Looks like Kristoff may have taken a red shirt at UST. He's listed as a sophomore on the SJU roster, but his twitter says he has all four years of eligibility remaining.

He chose UST over Central Michigan, Columbia, Cornell, and Florida Atlantic. Interested to see how he pans out at SJU. Maybe the dad will dial it down a notch, too.

I'm going to send him the link here, would be great entertainment.
I took his shot as more directed at D3 (and therefore his own kid and SJU accidentally) considering Kristoff didn't even see the field here last year. Should have 4 years of eligibility unless somehow a redshirt needs to be declared and not just default based on playing < 4 games. Seems like a smart kid and all indications are the guys on the team liked him well enough. Shame his father (former SJU player, I guess?) is such a tool.

Yes, I am alive! As AO said, Gopherhole has been fun with the young man's father contributing early and often. For a while now, I thought this kid would be happy at SJU. Good luck to him!

Multiple sources told ESPN that the board of managers briefly discussed the possibility of restructuring how college football is governed, with the idea presented of major college football potentially being governed outside of the NCAA. The most logical place for the sport to be run outside of the NCAA would be under the auspices of the CFP, which was discussed on the call. The CFP currently oversees the sport's postseason playoff and has contractual ties to other marquee postseason bowl games.

I think it's just a matter of time. We can all see this coming, right? There is simply too much money for university presidents, athletic directors, conference commissioners, and TV networks to grab.

Pat Coleman

Thankfully, something like this wouldn't have a huge effect on the NCAA budget, since the NCAA already receives no money from the TV rights to the D-I FBS football postseason.

Dropped #2 off at Concordia today for his first year. Crazy how time flies. He was born in September of 2003 and the two of us listened to the Johnnies win a national championship that fall.

Will move #1 in at SJU for his senior year next weekend. I am getting old.

Ice Bear

Ice Bear says he's wishing RZ's two kids a great year at their respective schools.

Ice Bear says he enjoyed the podcast where Bethel coach Steve Johnson was interviewed. 28 out of 30 top players back and a large sophomore class sounds like another solid year this season (Ice thinks maybe the Royals take the Johnnies this year) and a solid foundation moving forward. Ice looking for some ****ing Royal Rumbling this season. Great interview and outlook!

From 1,000 miles away, absolutely.  We're headed for "NFL, Saturday Version", that seems to be the ultimate end game.
