While my personal care factor was minimal, I did weigh in on last weeks poll here regarding the Johnnies uniform colors for opening day. Wasn't worth $10 to find out (see thread above).

Now I curiously find myself burning in anticipation to know  ::)

The answer is....................................?

Last year I tried to watch the free Cobber webcast of the SJU game played in Moorhead, MN. The quality of it was so bad they should have paid me to watch it. The camera operator was consistent about not being able to follow the play. It was also great how he/she managed to never pan in so we could actually see the game. Also the announcer sounds like someone's uncle that maybe played JV football in high school 40 years ago but really doesn't know a football from a futbol.
In all seriousness the Cobber webcast is horrible and will likely be the contributing factor to finally get me to drive up to Moorhead the next time the Johnnies play at the Jake.

Yup...with "free" broadcast you get a not-so-slick single camera video and the local AM radio announcers who sometimes forget to silence their live-streaming comments during radio commercial breaks. Sometimes its frustrating, and sometimes it is a lot of fun. Sometimes you don't get a broadcast at all, which seemed to be the case with Gustavus and Buena Vista last evening. I'll take the foibles for free, especially since paying for streaming doesn't always yield a better broadcast.

I'm sure all of our schools will eventually move to paid live-stream broadcasts. Is that a good thing for non-scholarship football?

The top 25 recap says Bethel's Jaran Roste got injured. Hope it's not serious for him.

"The 13th-ranked Bethel Royals put up a big win against Pacific Lutheran, but it may have come at a high cost. Bethel quarterback Jaran Roste left the game after four plays with what appeared to be a wrist injury. Video showed his hand being immobilized as he walked off the field. George Bolt came on in relief and threw two touchdown passes, while Bryce Kunkle ran for 116 yards and a score as well."

Ice Bear is hoping Roste is ok. Ice Bear says all injuries suck, but to come out so early on during game one may be an awful mind **** that won't quit.

The Third Division

Something everyone in this thread should keep in mind when discussing whitewater's offense was that they graduated 9 starters last year including 4 all americans (2 linemen, running back & qb). Their two reliable starters were honorable mention all conference WR Tyler Holte and QB Evan Lewandowski who started for Lacrosse back in 2019 and started yesterday for the first time in almost 3 years.

The majority of their offensive coaching staff also shifted positions/moved elsewhere. Their offensive coordinator Peter Jennings took the head coaching job at conference rival UW-Oshkosh, their offensive line and run coordinator became offensive coordinator at Platteville, their wide receivers coach became defensive coordinator for a d2 school, and their running backs coach became a grad assistant for wide receivers at Arizona State University.

The only good thing about whitewater's performance was their defense who returned a lot of good starters. Despite graduating last year's second team all american defensive end Mackenzie Balanganayi, Whitewater returned a majority of their defense including first team preseason all american linebacker ryan liszka and first team all conference players Defensive Line Kyle Gallagher & defensive back Egon Hein.

And while the defense did do good (remember, 11 RUSHING YARDS ALLOWED!!), their special teams unit screwed up in places that gave St. John's good starting field position.

All in all, whitewater could have played an average d3 squad and won. But playing good teams like St. Johns vs UMHB will, according to head coach kevin bullis, "Fix the unknowns." And I know for certain that the players and coaching staff will have many errors kinked out before they face off umhb at home.

Oh and before anyone mentions it, GET EFFIN READY FOR RIVER FALLS'S OFFENSE NEXT WEEK!!

FWIW....the Elmhurst / UWRF game from yesterday is available on their Youtube page....for FREE and appears to be a relatively high quality broadcast with replays and graphics.  Time to start scouting the Falcons!!!

Just Ice Bear's two cents but he feels that all D3 games should be streamed for no charge at high quality. Ice just feels with tuition being so high,  most player families paying most of the bill, and the abundance of technology available on every college campus across these here United States, there shouldn't be a charge. Ice really wanted to check out some of the Johnnies/Warhawk game but his cheap frozen ass wouldn't flip the 10$ while eating ****ing seal in his man cave on the glacier. Just IBHO.

The BU game video is still available (for free).... Around the 12 minute mark is when Roste gets hurt. It seems he got dinged up on his first run and then a couple plays later fall to the ground in a clump....seemed like he didn't want to put weight on his left arm/hand as he was going down.

When will the new top 25 poll be released? Does St John's trade spots with Whitewater?

As soon as I get the 25th voter's ballot in, but this is generally the time each week where it will go out, between 5 and 6 p.m. ET.

I sure hope Roste isn't seriously injured. BU had loaded for bear this season and the one guy you don't want to lose is Roste.  Still, there are few clubs that like a challenge like BU does.  Don't mess around with a wounded animal, as they say.

The 25th voter has mailed in his votes.  https://d3football.com/top25/2022/week1

* SJU is up to 4th
* BU is up to 11th
* GAC gets 3 points

Amazingly, the WIAC has four teams in the top 25 and Stout gets 2 points.  Frickn' half the conference is in play for the top 25.

Does anyone know how long it's been since St John's has been ranked #4 or higher? If so, when was the last time? I'm really intrigued to see how Whitewater looks against UMHB & how St John's looks against River Falls & Bethel!

Looks like we were ranked 4th week 8 of 2018 and got up to 3rd by the final of that season.

No. 4 to end the season in 2019 after making it to the national semifinals.

Though I wasn't able to find any posters at the tail gate(ssssss) (What a daunting task) I did have the privilege of riding in a cart from the tailgate area to the stadium with none other than Judge Fahey, aka, Johnnie Red.

Game was pretty weird with all the turnovers and 2 safeties. Strange that it ended with a pretty standard football score. Although the UWW QB never had possession and it should have been a TD. Liked the outcome, and my UWW alum companion was gracious in defeat. He was also impressed with the campus and surroundings.
