Ice Bear

We've got a round 1 bye, so we don't play till 9:30, and it's at Wayzata High School, which is about 5 miles from our house. It's not bad other than having to miss the Bethel game.

Ice Bear feels the softball pain. Ice's two cubs both play softball (aka. ****ing Fall Ball) and often it causes more ice jams than a ****ing glacier breaking up in a tanning salon. Good luck Duff.

Ice Bear says Bethel certainly looks to have it's hands full Saturday in this great rivalry game. Hoping the Bethel D can stand tall against what seems like a very impressive O for the Johnnies. Ice is hoping Froste is back but doesn't know. Ice says either way the Royals have their work cut out for them. The Bear will be following along as his Dutchmen welcome D2 wannabe Utica College to Frank Bailey field in Shocktown.

I just did a quick search on information related to the Utica College move to D2 but couldn't find anything. Anyone have a source that would provide a summary of where things stand? Or is this not entirely public or a rumor at this point?

It's more like an open secret. They'll apply to D-II in February, I believe. My understanding is that it's the Northeast-10 that will be their conference of record so that they can apply.

Lucky duck...bring the iPad and stream the game.

Lucky duck...

This is my karma for a state baseball tournament in Rosemount with a mid-game, 4-hour weather delay.

A tradition unrivaled...

Utica just tweeted 5 minutes ago that they will be making a special announcement tomorrow morning. I think it's about to go down.

What's the benefit of D2? I've always viewed D2 as being far more costly than D3 without any meaningful bump in revenue, whether from ticket sales, merchandise, media rights, etc.
Or is this all part of a greater plan to eventually go D1 in everything?

I mean, I'm biased but I generally agree that there isn't a meaningful bump in any of those things, and that includes exposure.

For Utica, it would mean a chance to do D-I hockey, though, and that is meaningful in that part of the country.

I would imagine they'd list Roste as starter unless he was a complete no-go (i.e. in a cast or something).   I guess we'll find out Saturday at 1:00.

That was my thought too...encouraging that he's not a complete scratch like for UWP, but it doesn't make me necessarily think he's "likely" to play.

Has there been any more word on whether the championship game will be maintained next year?  It certainly changes the dynamic of this matchup.

SJU vs. Bethel game notes are up:

This is a karmic danger weekend for SJU.  The notes say we're 5-8 all time on this date.  And we've lost the last two.
