Well, it wasn't a good weekend for the Johnnies, but it was a great weekend for the Alumni.  Erdmann's Vikings won the European championship and Bartch's Jaguars won their second game in a row for the first time in forever.

Or, as the ELF announcers pronounce it, "Airdman."

Tough loss for the Johnnies on Saturday. I'm hoping for a rematch in November in Collegeville where SJU shows up with a big ol' chip on its shoulder.

I think most of us thought SJU would come out of these first three games with at least one set back, but most thought that setback (if it was only one) would be against UWW in the first game.

Biggest thing is to say focused throughout the conference schedule. This is a very good football team. We all have expectations of a division championship and playing in the (final?) MIAC Championship Game in November. But, we also know that we are going to get everyone's best game from here on out.

Perhaps someone should put the replay of the end of the 2019 Concordia at SJU game on the public access network on campus (do they even have that channel anymore?) as a reminder of how easy a snakebite can occur.

Bethel's the type of team that always plays hard.  Add in old man Roste, an 8-game losing streak to the Johnnies, and the sting from last year's last-second loss, and you knew they were going to come out swinging.  Hopefully, this will focus the Johnnies.

If Saturday isn't a wake-up call, nothing will be! How much of Saturday would you attribute to Bethel coming to play or St John's getting complacent? I guess we'll see what they look like on Saturday. Should be enough motivation to run the table to have a chance at Bethel on November 12th!

I didn't see a complacent SJU team. Their first drive was an impressive and methodical 10 play thing of beauty. Both teams came to play, same as I saw for both games last year. The result was just different. If they both go about their business, I'd expect an even more intense battle to end the season.

The two interceptions in the 4th quarter were rough, but I don't think that's necessarily a sign of complacency.
Generally, complacency in my opinion is coming out and getting knocked on your heels in the first quarter or first half. I didn't get that feel on Saturday.

I didn't get complacency either. I think this game chalks up to one really blown assignment on defense (the Kunkle TD run) and not being able to consistently complete those deep routes. Whether that's route running, throwing, or really good secondary play, I'm not super qualified to answer. SJU recovered from that on the 19-play opening drive and I was impressed with the play-calling on that drive and how they ran the ball, but two picks (one deflected) is tough, obviously.

On a more serious note - tonight might break us on the furnace usage...only a high of 60 today, and low of 36 tonight is going to be tough to overcome between my wife and I.

Go ahead, say it Duff. This game was jinxed by pre-game pux chatter. ;)

A Royal goes to his Johnnie mate's place to watch the BU vs SJU game. As the game finishes, the Johnnie's 8-year-old son gets out of the chair, goes to the fridge and gets his dad a beer.

The Royal sees this and asks, "What was that all about?"

"Oh, that? Well, every time the Johnnies beat the Royals, he gets me a beer from the fridge."

"What does he do if the Royals win?"

"I don't know; he's only 8."

If there was a jinx, this was it...bringing up your own winning streak!

I think the key takeaway, at least from my perspective, is that nothing that happened on Saturday is something that can't be fixed. The Johnnies can work on blown defensive assignments, route running/timing in the passing game, etc.

I haven't heard anyone say anything in the neighborhood of "Bethel seemed to absolutely dominate ________" whether it be line strength, speed, play calling, etc. Those things are kind of things you either have or you don't.
