We have not turned the furnace on yet, just used the gas fireplace. However, I did turn on the in-floor heat in the basement, which the heat does waft up to the main level and upstairs. I figured this was cheating and wasn't sure if I was still a master of my domain. It was 64 this morning and my teenage daughter is begging for the furnace. I made her a cup of hot chocolate instead.

Am I the only person still running there AC?  Great article on the Carleton Coach. Glad to se them having success. Carleton has had a few coaches with quick success there that quickly fall off. Overall I think they are doing really well at finding coaches that fit the mold of the school. Hopefully they can do a better job keeping their coaches.

Roste, Kidder and Niewald are playing on another level right now.

Roste had 423 yds passing, 3 TD's and 68 yds rushing, 1 TD

Kidder broke Niewalds record of 15 receptions (GAC game this year) with 16 for 196 yds and 2 TD's. Not bad for a pair of sophomore wideouts!

Ice Bear

The Bear very pleased with Bethel's W today. Ice Bear says Roste was a beast with 68 yards on the ground, a TD, and a scamper for 33. In the air 34 for 39 for 423 yards and 3 TDS. Ice Bear admittedly is a "Johnny come lately" to the MIAC board but he says that is one heck of a day for Rosten Roste.

Bethel looks very talented. The 3-yards and cloud of turf days are long gone for them. Not sure if they have the speed to keep up with the D3 giants, but they are probably competitive.

Guessing some of the referees from the SJU/Um Yah Yah game will have sore shoulders from throwing flags--20 penalties between the two!

An SJU lineman was hit with a personal foul because his helmet came off and he continued to play.  What's he supposed to do, immediately run for the sideline?

A tradition unrivaled...

c. If the ball carrier's helmet comes off as in paragraph a (above) the ball is dead (Rule 4-1-3-q). If the player is not the ball carrier the ball remains alive, but that player must not continue to participate in the play beyond the immediate action of which they are engaged. Prolonged participation is a personal foul (Rule 9-1-17). By definition such a player is obviously out of the play (Rule 9-1-12-b).

My guess is the ref and players/coach would have differing interpretations. I believe the broadcast did question how the players helmet came off to begin with. SJU has eaten a few hands to the face penalties on defense.

SJU13

In the land of hypotheticals and what-ifs where would Bethel be ranked had they squeaked a win against Platteville? The lose dropped them from 11 to 21. Win against SJU brought them from 20 to 12. SJU was 2 with 6 first place votes. Bethel was just ahead of LaCrosse week 1 of the polls by 22 points and Central by 57. Seems likely the could've swapped places on performance but a likely #2 vs #11-13 matchup. MIAC with 2 in the top 10? Bethel ahead of SJU? Bethel in top 5?

How does a lineman's helmet come off?

Love my Johnies but I think Gus Davis will win next week.

Gus Davis is good-but football wise, not sure.

I see that the Vikings have a two-game lead in the division after just six rounds of football.  I look forward to seeing how they blow it.

The Vikes have turned into a 4th quarter team, believe it or not. The defense has been doing its part late in the game, unlike the past years, sometimes with luck. Key players are healthy (knock on wood). My interest in the NFL has waned recently, but I find myself watching this team.

Probably hands to the face.  Can't remember what game it was, but saw it happen to the RB, on a play from inside the 5 yard line, and he proceeded to score, but it was erased by the penalty.  I sort of understand the spirit of the rule, but you can certainly make the case that for an un-helmeted player to simply stop and stand still in the middle of play is more unsafe.
