Ice Bear says he's interested to see the numbers Rosten Roste and company will put up over the next couple weeks against the likes of the Scots and the Oles. Ice sees both as being clear cut W's and is wondering if Jaran will go ****ing Uncle Buck wild knowing his incredible career is getting closer to the end. Ice is hoping for no injuries for anyone in Royal Land in the coming weeks would like to see a healthy Royals team continue to build positive momentum towards what Ice believes could be a solid NCAA run if they can take it to the Johnnies again (which Ice knows will be a ****ing bitch to defeat the Jonathans twice in one season).

I think the numbers would be crazy, but I'm guessing he doesn't play much of the 4th Q in either. Kidder's big game last week included him, Roste, and co sitting the last 8 minutes of the game.

Saint John's-Gustavus game notes are up:

https://gojohnnies.com/news/2022/10/19/sju-footballs-family-weekend-game-notes-vs-gustavus.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2uFaF07t2K1OerfH5fPkyw2sgyh3CvV3oFzfsQut5tFe9uer7LItzEnN0

"SJU was whistled for 15 penalties, 13 of which were accepted for 113 yards. The 13 penalties were the most for SJU since the 49-28 Homecoming win over Hamline on Oct. 4, 2014 (13 penalties for 129 yards). The Gusties, meanwhile, were called for six penalties Saturday. Of the five accepted, four were personal fouls (two roughing the passer, one facemask and one roughing the kicker)."

Both teams got a fair amount of flags last week. Expect this to be...chippy.

The officiating crew could get their workout with these teams.

Can't help but wish Carleton had a true bye week to rest up and give those nagging injuries time to heal. As a reminder, their bye was week 1 of the season so they are playing ten straight games.

Can't understand why week one byes even exist. Huge disadvantage for them
We come from St. Olaf, we sure are the real stuff.
Our team is the cream of the colleges great.
We fight fast and furious, our team is injurious.
Tonight Carleton College will sure meet its fate.

It's a creature of D3 non-conference scheduling, I suspect. Finding a suitable NC game for week one may only leave you with playing UW-Whitewater, or North Central or something like that. It's something that I think programs on the rise would generally like to avoid. There's a desire to play challenging games and pushing your boundaries, but not teams where there is little to no chance of being competitive.

If you are set on playing two UMAC teams out of conference, you may not be able to get them in Week 1 and Week 2.

Ice Bear says there is some douche bag who keeps dinging his karma everytime he posts here. ****ing shame as Ice really is enjoying himself watching/learning about some great MIAC football. To Ice, this is by far one of the best boards on PP with some of the best posters going.

I check the board out a couple of times a week anymore during season, I enjoy your posts and generally bump you when I can.

I know nothing about the degree of difficulty that goes into scheduling D3 non-conference and I can't speak to whether or not they had a partner ready to go who could've replaced Crown to give them a week 1 match-up and week 3 bye. I think it was a one-time fluke. Clearly, they aren't only willing to play UMAC schools considering they're trying to set up a west coast series and an east coast series. I'm also not going to fault them for not scheduling a North Central caliber opponent. Just wished the schedule had shaken out a tad differently. Gosh, I'm so interested to see what happens Saturday (in the SJU-Gac game too)

Pat Coleman

I just want to say I never advocated for Carleton to try to schedule a North Central-type opponent. There's a lot of teams in D-III between Crown and North Central -- almost all of them, in fact.

In today's Quick hits, Ryan is picking the game of the week as the Gusties visiting the Johnnies. He sites the two 3 point losses to Stout and Bethel as his reasoning. So are the Johnnie faithful at all nervous about this game? If not, why not?

Any chance that Carleton at Concordia will be the closer of the two games?

I picked the Johnnies to cover the spread (+10.5) against Gustavus, but it's a pick driven by my status as a Johnnie rather than statistics, probabilities, or any other objective measure.

This feels like a trap game. And if it ends up being a true trap game and the Johnnies lose, they are really behind the eight ball. Even if they win out, they would need substantial help just to get into the championship game. I just looked at the tiebreakers and they seem kind of... umm... mind-numbing?

Two-Team Tie:

1. Head-to-head result between the two tied teams
2. Winning percentage against all in-division opponents for the tied teams.
3. Head-to-head winning percentage against in-division opponent(s) above the tied teams in descending rank order.
4. Head-to-head winning percentage against in-division opponent(s) below the tied teams in descending rank order.
5. Combined winning percentage versus all common non-divisional MIAC opponents.
6. Cumulative winning percentage versus all MIAC opponents.
7. Coin Flip.

Unless they renewed it for 2 more years, I think UWEC wrapped up their home & home series with Albion this year. Would like to see them put Carleton on the early season schedule.

I am incredibly nervous and will not be overly surprised if GAC wins.  Now would be a great time for a Johnnie breakout game.

Huge need for a breakout game. This is a turning point for the season. A win keeps the Johnnies on the path to the MIAC Championship Game (though Carleton makes me nervous, too, given how well they've been playing), whereas a loss firmly plants them in the second place game (at best) playing, most likely, Concordia or maybe Augsburg. But, the middle of the Skyline Division is wide open, and its not impossible to have two, if not three, Skyline Division teams finish at 2-2 in the division (Concordia, Augsburg, and Macalester).

I'm anxious for the smoke to clear on Saturday.
