corn horn, which Concordia team is going to show up this weekend? The one that just double monkey stomped Hamline 59-0, or the one that escaped with an overtime win against the Knights three weeks ago?

Well, I really wish I could be sure because there have definitely been some major swings, but I think this is going to truly be framed up as a pride game. I think they were truly irritated by the inability to stop Augsburg two weeks ago, and really had all things clicking last week. Of course, Carleton brings more to the table than Hamline. Still, I think they will go to Northfield on a bit of a mission and stuff the Knights this week. I expect better defense from both sides, and a Cobber victory by about 10 points.

Hoping a nice cap on the season is a springboard to Concordia reclaiming some relevance in the conference next year!

I saw in the Scoggins article that they described Roste as having a shoulder injury, with a questionable status.

IMHO, it'll take a significant injury to sideline Roste.  They're obviously a much better team with him at the helm, and should they lose, that pool C bid is far from a guarantee.

Bluenote, why did send me those boudoir photos of you and your trombone?

On a scale of one to a HAAG Switzerland Bass Trombone, how exciting will the Augsburg at Gustavus game be?

I think GAC steamrolls Auggie Tech.

Sackbut players are nerds.  :)

Cool... I play the trombone but the spit valve leaks. :-*

I have 3 Trombones which I still play regularly...but also 3 guitars and a bass. Give that a spin on the nerd meter.

Cool... I play bass, guitar, keyboards and trombone. My trombone is a Conn 8H (played a Conn 88H in college) What type of trombones do you have?  8-) 8-) 8-)

Switched to bass trombone my sophomore year in college, so a Holton TR 181 bass bone with the double trigger has been my bread and butter for 42 years now. Will pull out the silver pea shooter (King tempo 3806 nickel plate) if I'm looking to peel some paint or remove wallpaper! The other is a Getzen I got for my daughter to use when in school. She has moved, but the bone remains. Not even sure on the model number...basic intermediate with f-attachment. Plays well.

Texas Ole

I see I triggered the board pretty good last week.  Let me first say that I think a 32 team playoff where the champions have to win 5 games is absurd.  I think 15 games is way too much football.  Maybe the solution is to drop regular season games or create a committee with one fewer round of the playoffs.  I also remember years where other MIAC schools outside of the traditional powers didn't get the same respect your traditional power schools did when it came to at-large spots.  I know there is a formula.  I also love the Ivy League format where the conference champion is crowned and you move forward to the next thing.  I enjoy the bowls.  I never had a problem with a split champion.

I don't have a problem with any school dominating a sport or being great at a lot of sports as long as its done within the rules.  Each school has to find focal points that sets them apart.  I love seeing St. Olaf succeed in athletics more than anyone, but I also want there to be balance in how St. Olaf approaches athletics.  I like to win, but I also don't let losing effect me.  In the words of one of late posters "Go Everyone!"

We've got some strong trombone talk for a bunch of non-Oles.  I have less than zero musical talent.  I will raise the nerd status of the board by letting you all know I am studying for the CPA exam right now.

I also played trombone in HS and at St John's. Sold it many years ago. Also played bugle in a drum and bugle corps. Played intramural B Ball and Club Rugby at SJU/

Wow, this got real nerdy in a hurry.  Our 11YO just started playing the trombone, and my sister-in-law dropped off an old Conn that was my wife's mom's and an old silver King that was my wife's grandpa's.  Both need some fairly significant TLC, so he's got a newer rent-to-own trombone till I decide if I want to sink money into these family options.

That's fantastic I'm sure she'll do great! Here is a little something for her to look forward to:

Isn't Oz the unofficial keeper of the acceptable off-season topics? (Beer, Ice Fishing, etc) Can we add the subtle nuances of trombone ownership to the list?

I resign the responsibility.  I thought you had all agreed via PMs to troll me with this trombone talk.  If anyone can bust out a fat Chicago tune then we're back in business.

Oh man - my current job makes me a day late and a dollar short on the discussion board - oy!

Yes, I am somewhat of a nerd - notice my Debian Linux command line below the spinning Raspberry Pi icon...   And most of you know I do rockety things as well...

But who knew, we were a board of horn players? I also played the trombone in high school playing a Conn trigger tenor horn. Senior year our band took a mini day long tour to play at a couple of high schools. (Heh, we got of of classes for a day, right?) Our finale was Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever with the pics standing up to do their solos, but the brass got to walk to the front of the stage at the end of the song and let them have it. It was a hoot and we brought the house down at both schools. True confessions, I haven't picked up a 'bone to toot on it in at least 40 years.
