LOL! I knew there were some closet tromboners in the audience....  :-*

I also played trombone in HS and at St John's. Sold it many years ago. Also played bugle in a drum and bugle corps. Played intramural B Ball and Club Rugby at SJU/

When was that?  I played on the club rugby team at Bethel after it became clear I was not the caliber of athlete likely to see much playing time in football.

SJU had a great team while I was playing.  There were both D2 and D3 levels in MN at the time, and BU was D3 my first couple of years, but moved up to D2 for the last two.  SJU was the class of D2 in the state at the time, but last I heard UMD has now become the top D2 rugby team in the state, even winning a national championship.  I don't think Bethel even has a team anymore, unfortunately.

Are we talking double entendres now?  I'm not sure at all.

Entendres? My trombone extends to 8th position,  ;D

My arms are not long enough to do that!

I still have the original, old, battered trombone that I got in fifth grade. It is literally nothing special. No idea what brand or anything. But it is functional enough that I could play it with my daughter's high school pep band last year. :)

When I signed up for an account at D3boards some 13 years ago, I never thought I'd find myself in the midst of a trombonist smoke show.

Where are my fellow trumpet players? We could blow the doors off this place with a little triple high C action.

I was in percussion in HS band...the cool cats (at least self perceived?) of the band nerds.

Get out of here, Trombone players only.  Though I did get rid of mine after 8th grade.

I am still not convinced of the 2-division model of the conference, but one benefit is that this week's games look like pretty solid matchups from top to bottom.

BU @ SJU
- I'll be attending this one, and I expect it will live up to the hype. So much on the line. I hope the losing side finds a way to get a Pool C bid.

AUG @ GAC
- Depending on which Augsburg squad shows up, it could be competitive. However, I wouldn't be surprised if this game ends up with the widest margin of victory this Saturday. I suppose one other angle here is that GAC maybe has a slim chance to make it into the regional rankings with a win? The loss to Stout probably hurts them with that though.

CON @ CAR
- Overtime game for their last match-up. Carleton has home field, but their QB's injury status may factor in.

MAC @ STO
- Oles won on the road by 6 last time. I think they probably repeat that at home.

HAM @ SSC
- This was a 1-point shootout last time. Scholastica got their only conference win in that game. Probably another close one on Saturday.

Lastly, back to the topic at hand: I'm not a trombone player. Where are my saxophone people at?

The loser of the MIAC Championship Game would have to hope for Gustavus to beat Augsburg in convincing fashion. I'm thinking Gustavus is the only other MIAC school with an outside chance at sneaking into the regional rankings.

I'd forgotten about this possibility. If UWP loses, there's an open slot for another team to get ranked. Possible it could be GAC. That last second loss to Stout stings both SJU and BU right now.

Assuming Platteville loses, the last spot would be between:

6-4 Oshkosh
6-4 River Falls (if they beat Stout)
7-3 Gustavus
Pomona Pitzer at 8-2 or 7-3
In the Northwest, George Fox-Whitworth is a key game. A GF win would put them at 8-2, whereas Whitworth win would mean they are both at 7-3. PLU will probably also be at 7-3 but GAC should stay ahead of them because of common opponent results with Bethel.

Obviously lots of assumptions here, but GAC is at least in the running. It may help that GAC kept it close against Stout and BU, losing both games by just 3 points.
