I'm pretty sure it was the SJU Abby monks singing "We Are The Champions" at the end of the game for all you grinches out there...

That was my thought, but it was terrible.  Ugh.  Who thought having a bunch of men who have devoted their lives to the Catholic faith should cover a flamboyant, glam-rock icon?

A tradition unrivaled...

How's that for some cognitive dissonance!
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

And that's after Pat had to reset the site and we lost the massive lead we originally had. Pat would know better, but I'd guess the total page count between current Post Patterns and old would be well past 10k.

Pat Coleman

Maybe. That reset occurred in 2005, and the board was around for six years before.

Final regional rankings are out.  SJU leap-frogged Linfield for the top spot (which I kind of assumed).

1. St. John's: 9-1, 9-1
2. Linfield: 9-0, 9-0
3. UW-Whitewater: 8-2, 8-2
4. Bethel, 8-2, 8-2
5. UW-La Crosse, 7-1, 9-1
6. George Fox, 8-2, 8-2
7. UW-Oshkosh, 6-3, 6-4

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24

So, most likely Bethel is the first off the board because of SOS, which then frees up La Crosse?

I wish I would not have started to listen. Turned it off.
The monks in my time could really chant.
Sunday Vespers in the old Church was/were awesome!

So much for my theory.  Man that's bad.

My guess is the combo of music rights as previously mentioned and attempt to connect to the monks. Not always gonna hit. As for the music, I don't mind it. Just needs some finessing between PA game play, advertisements, and the jams.

There is something to be said for keeping everyone entertained which might be part of it. Potentially keeps the well imbibed student section from dipping in the second half for an afternoon nap. Gives the families who may be there to support their kid than interested in the game. The guys on the sidelines seemed to enjoy it. For the 20+ HS on the sidelines I imagine that looked like something you'd want to be a part of.

AO

I got to play We are the Champions twice last Saturday, once for the football UMAC title and once for the NCAA regional volleyball championship over Whitewater.  Definitely the Queen version.

I'm not of same era, and I know the Piano Man is a favorite but for me it's a complete buzz kill at end of games.  It's awful and completely drains the stadium of any life.

The whole Piano Man drop your trouser bit at weddings is a bit puzzling too.  Again, when class of '83 was getting married Billy Joel was not a thing and I'm proud to say it still isn't.
How do you not play Johnny B. Goode at the end of every game?  Might be that new sound you're looking for.

DuffMan

Maybe AO should take over in the booth at SJU this weekend...
