Hi, all, I'm afraid I have some sad news.  57Johnnie passed away on Friday, along with his wife.  They both had declining health issues, but to pass away on the same day is a rather happy-sad outcome.

57 was a good man.  The news is rather fresh for me and I just want to say that I'm really glad he posted here.  He was witty and kind.  He will be missed.

Oh gosh ... I'm so sorry to hear that. Agreed on the happy-sad part of your post, for sure, though.

Sadness across this site, as 57 touched so many and always had a kind word of encouragement. He will be missed. He was one of a kind. Rest in Peace friend.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Rest in peace 57Johnnie and to his wife. I always enjoyed the bromance that developed between 57Johnnie and MUC57. It was interesting to hear stories about John's early years coaching at SJU as told by 57Johnnie. If I remember correctly, they both arrived on campus the same year. He will be missed on these boards.

My condolences to the whole Johnnie family.

Very sorry to hear the news about 57Johnnie and his wife; I enjoyed reading his posts over the years. Condolences to their immediate families and to the SJU family as a whole.

Very sad news. Never had the pleasure of meeting him, but enjoyed his posts and wit. Seems sadly fitting that he and MUC57 would pass so close together. Go everybody!

57 was one of the good guys on the board. He always felt welcoming to all fans and would engage with reason. Next season won't be the same.

Anyone ever hear from JohnnieRed?  He always came across as very welcoming. He always made sure everyone had an invite to his tailgate and other events he was attending. I moved away before I could ever take him up on the invite.

Sad to hear about 57. Like many have already said on here, he seemed like a very kind, good-hearted man.

Johnnie Red has been experiencing health related issues over the past couple years.

Texas Ole,

Check your PMs.

57's niece shared with me that his funeral will be next week and that they appreciate the posts they have seen here.  They have been nice.

I reckon 57 will be bummed to have missed this year's hockey hair video (amongst other reasons to be bummed, I suppose).  I haven't watched it yet so I'm just about to enjoy it now.

I'm also enjoying this weekend where Hawthorn opens the season against Essendon (the old enemy) playing at the MCG.  Geelong is the rival we respect.  Essendon is the rival we despise.  It should be a great game.

Would it be out of line for someone to share 57's obituary here?

I know we all operate under a degree of anonymity here and that's a feature of this forum rather than a bug. It's just nice to get a sense of the humanity of the people I interact with.

I honestly have not been able to find one for him.  :'(

I've been checking several newspapers and have not found obituaries for 57 and his wife.
