Art (and others), here's a podcast episode I reckon you'll enjoy.

Yeah, there's a lot going on in the world of technology - that's for sure. Vigilance is required on a personal level to limit ones interaction with "data miners" through the use of the best password/passphrase technology at your fingertips. Currently, in my mind, the largest threat is latent. These data miners continue to hack into large data sets so that in 10 to 15 years when quantum computers come on-line, all that data will become available to them because the bad guys will have access to technology to break all the algorithms currently in use. I saw a Northfield city administrator interviewed the other day, and he stated that those fields were "designed to flood".

Don't they sandbag around the West Gym in flood years because they built those facilities right in the Cannon River flood plain?

Heh.  This airplane was designed to crash.  And this boat designed to sink.  Just like these fields were designed to be unusable.

Flooding is a feature not a bug!

Rumors of a new QB coach at SJU...

I should know this, but who was the QB coach?

Mike Orts was, but he took an OC position at Baldwin Wallace last season.  I don't think SJU had an offical QB coach in 2022.

Graydon Kulick, who, from what I had heard, was transferring to SJU right as COVID hit, has "Quarterbacks Coach @ Saint John's University" listed in his Twitter bio.

Duff & I have gone back & forth on the NIL & transfer portal phenomenon sweeping NCAA athletics recently. LSU just won the Women's Basketball Championship with a roster made up of mostly transfer portal players.
I have done some reading but still don't truly grasp NIL. Here is the Reader's Digest version of what I found. A player can have a NIL agent to find opportunities. The opportunities can be anything from doing a social media paid post for a local business to doing a national ad campaign for a major brand, think Olivia Dunne of LSU gymnastics or Paige Beuckers of UConn Women's basketball. There can also be appearance and speaking fees. This could be something like speaking in front of the Chamber of Commerce of the city your host university is located in or the booster club of your university. I believe the Gopher O Line made appearances for a local BBQ restaurant in the summer of 2022 if memory serves me right. The best player on a terrible Gopher's men's basketball team is transferring to The Ohio State University for what a local sportscaster reported to be a mid-six figure NIL package.

NIL, in my opinion, has forever change the college athletics landscape.

Here's a question to ponder, will NIL trickle down to D3 or has it already? Feel free to discuss.

Yeah, the NIL business (and portal too) are just making a mess of college athletics, IMHO.  Hate them both.

Here's a link to information about what Wisconsin is doing. There's a lot there, if you have time you might find it interesting. Not sure it makes the big picture any clearer, but its a window into what goes on.  Some of these kids have a price for making a social media post or sending a personal greeting to someone (like a happy birthday) and on and on, up to being a spokesperson or some such. Scroll down a ways and click on YouDub Marketplace.  It takes you to a "page" where each athlete has a list of what they do and for how much. Click on an athlete's picture to see the "menu". I think its sad, actually, but it is what it is. Welcome to the 21st century.
