[...] I'm pretty surprised that made it through all the layers of bureaucracy actually, I mean that's not a one guy with a wild idea thing.

All joking aside, this just seems like a liability waiting to happen. The first guy that goes down with a serious heat injury could sue and be able to demonstrate that a black field is hotter than just about any other type of turf field.

It has refrigeration pipes running under the entire field. Except for the visiting bench which has hot water pipes underneath.

A week w/o a post on this board?? Hard to believe.

Last Thursday saw a group of about 10 Johnnies and their folks eating on the porch at Fisher's in Avon.  A couple weeks before, saw Coach Haugen there.

That's all I've got!  ;)

Give it a couple weeks and we will have players reporting to camp and we will start to receive little bits of news--who showed up, who didn't, and we might be able to gather some inside information on who made big improvements in the offseason.

Partial knee replacement is at 7+ months but still need to lose 10-15 lbs...maybe a dry month, diet adjustment and exercise program might help...probably too late to get ready for this season.

faunch,
Really, a partial knee replacement already? Did you have some significant/serious blasts/injuries to your knee during your college playing days? You are too young to have have to undergo that procedure! Sorry to hear that, but I hope your recovery continues to progress well in all ways. Keep at it-you'll achieve your goals I will bet. Keep us posted. Enjoy the remaining summer. The season is fast approaching!

I've had issues for 10+ years (avascular necrosis) which killed off the cartilage and led to the medial side of my knee being bone on bone  I believe the likely cause was accidentally shooting a nail from a nail gun into my knee when i was 17. I had half a dozen or more injections over the last 4-5 years. Last one, March 2022, lasted about 2-3 weeks...at end of trip to Spain my knee ballooned up and left me with limited options...the outer half of my knee cartilage is excellent and my partial should last 15-20 years. I'm pain free and am more active than i was before...i can sleep without waking up in pain and walk without being completely gimpy...unfortunately I've been having some plantar fasciitis which is probably due to increased activity and extra weight.
My Ortho was great (and i got a few email consultations with kilted rat)...if anyone needs a recommendation i suggest Kristofer Breien at Summit Ortho in Eagan.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing that.  I played basketball through HS, and continue to play now, though it has dwindled to once a week.  I'm 37, so I've still got a few years left, and am not at the end, but I can see it from here.  Would love to find a way to stay involved in basketball, and my kids (at least my first two) are not terribly interested, so at least for the moment, it won't be coaching.

I started at age 38 and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. My approach is that I could pay a monthly fee for a gym membership that I won't use, or I could make a little bit of money to run up and down the court with some kids for a few hours. Plus, there is a huge need for officials at all levels in all sports, so I look at it as a way of "giving back" to the sports that I played growing up.

I'll be doing football starting this fall and I'm super excited.

I reffed basketball about 30 or so years ago. Did everything from weekend youth up to varsity. Only reason I stopped was that we had young kids and I wanted to be a dad and not end up divorced because of being gone 3 nights a week.
I've considered getting back into it...ortho even said I could if I want to. I would rather avoid high impact things like running up and down a court...considering softball umpiring. Like you said there is significant shortage of officials....a guy could probably work 6 or 7 days a week (not what I want to do).
Football would be fun but sacrificing every Friday night would be difficult.

There are plenty of guys that only officiate sub-varsity. Games start at 4/5 p.m., and you're home in time for a later dinner. Plus for football, the overwhelming majority of sub-varsity games are Monday through Thursday.
