I was looking through the schedules this year and noticed that October 7th is scheduled to be homecoming for both St. Olaf and Carleton, which is interesting since they are playing each other at Carleton.  I wasn't a linguistics major, but I always thought one of the prerequisites form homecoming was that it was, you know, at home.

Bwah ha ha.  That's pretty funny.

a combined homecoming game between two schools in the same town seems like a great idea to juice attendance, honestly.

No need to juice it when it's at St. Olaf, that place has been packed for every Carleton-St. Olaf game I can remember. Laird stadium is a different scale. I thought they played @Carleton last year though?

It's already tough to get a room in town for any saturday in the fall and almost impossible during one school's homecoming. I wonder if the two schools will collaborate for a hotel shuttle service to Lakeville.

Homecoming stay in Lakeville would not be in my top 100.
But i guess you would be closer to the airport if you flew in.

Staying in Northfield for me depends on the reason. I think many of the alumni functions end up in the Cities.

It is strange that we are having a Homecoming game on the road. I think I've seen it before in Texas where 2 schools share a stadium, and the home team on paper is terrible.

Just taking a look at the calendar logistics for St. Olaf, the only other options they would have for homecoming would be: 1) opening game of the year (September 2) vs. Central; 2) MIAC opener vs. Macalester (September 23); 3) October 21 vs. Augsburg; 4) October 28 vs. Gustavus; or 5) November 4 vs. Saint John's.

Number 1, 4, and 5 are out of the question for either being way to early or way to late. Not sure why they didn't go with September 23. Late September is always such a nice time of year. October 21 is a serviceable date--it has the potential to be fairly cold and all the leaves are off the trees, but the likelihood of snow is pretty small.

Plus, it's a near lock for a win, which is a typical criteria for a homecoming game.

A tradition unrivaled...

Well, consistent with having a fight song in 3/4 time, I guess we can just sum this up as St. Olaf doing things "different."

Did you follow the MIAC standings last year?!  We lost to Mac at home last year on Senior Day. Luckily we won the series on aggregate.

Another item from looking at schedules -- I'm surprised I didn't notice the earth shaking, SJU opener with Trinity is scheduled for a noon start!!

Yeah, it's not good if you have to start talking about aggregating scores from different games together.

I just realized that it has been more than a decade since St. Olaf has finished with a record above .500. There were a couple years where they finished right at .500, but haven't been higher since the 2012 season.

I only get mad when it's something like a 1:10 p.m. kickoff.

Guessing it's so Trinity can make it back to "da cities" to catch their flight.

Sorry, I guess I don't follow the MIAC cellar as closely as I should.  Based on the gaudy recruiting photo shoot blasts that the Oles put out on social media, you'd think they'd find some success.  ::)

I guess I should clarify the of the choices, Mac is probably their best chance for a win.
