Almost always is over selling it...

Fair enough, but if there is a former cellar-dweller that is going to give Bethel fits, it's going to be Auggie Tech.

Per Reusse, I fixed it for you.

What does Auggie O line and defense have coming back this year?
Not sure to be honest I don't follow them during the off-season like I used to. I know they are getting bigger and taller as I have looked at the roster. I see the twin linebackers from Edina, the Kahin brothers are back, and the other linebackers Sjostrand and Tverberg are back too. There was another linebacker/def end from last year who I don't see on the roster.  Returning WRs will be strong and several RB's are back too. Sheehan the starting QB seems to have been at Augsburg forever.

Sheehan is short, but he can spin the ball.

BU lists 37 freshmen and three quarterbacks, a senior, a junior, and a sophomore. I don't recall any of them taking any snaps in a game, as (I thought) Roste's backup also graduated last year. I have no idea which of them has the nod for starting.

As I shared earlier, Kyle Kilgore returns this year as a defensive coach, but what was news to me is that Jaran is the quarterbacks coach.

BU gets a fair amount of discussion in this week's podcast. In a nutshell, they expect a down year as the Royals start to rebuild to be a contender again.

Returning senior, Bolt, was Roste's backup last year. He finished most of game 1 versus Pac Lutheran (W) and started against UW Platteville (L). Roste was banged up from game 1 Pac Lutheran game so he sat out game 2 returning versus the Johnnies in game 3.

Thanx for the clarification.

They were pretty high on the Soph last year as a freshman, but he got injured and had (Shoulder??) surgery in the offseason. I'd guess Bolt starts week 1 vs. Wart. TBD if he's still the starter going into SJU.

I think I'm a little higher on Bethel than Pat is, but obviously the whole thing comes down to evolving the offense to be efficient with Bolt's skill set.  I like a lot of Bethel's pieces.  Joey Kidder - Absolute Dude.  David Geebli - Dude.  Devin Williams - Dude.  These guys are individually top tier guys in the Division (IMO).  If Bethel minimizes drop off from graduation losses on the OL and Bolt plays reasonably well (not reasonable to think he'll replicate Roste, obviously), I think Bethel can be very good.  If they go 2 for 3 in the Wartburg and St. John's games, I wouldn't be surprised if they are back in the tournament.

If BU takes 2/3 of those games, I'd be thrilled, though I don't really expect it.  More likely - they break in a new QB this year and are still competitive, but not a top 10 team like last season.  Then - next year they'll still have their wide receiver group intact, along with Geebli, and Williams back on defense again, and maybe are primed for another run.

I admittedly don't know a ton about Wartburg, but obviously very good last year, and bring a number of preseason All Americans with this year, so I'm sure they'll be good.  SJU could be a juggernaut, with a seasoned QB leading the way, and getting two very good games under their belt in the preseason.  Certainly seems like there might be a deep playoff run in the cards for them.

Fun to even be thinking about football again!

The SJU-Trinity broadcast "will be available for purchase" on or about Friday, September 1. It would be kind of nice if they could let us know in how much, right?

And now we do: $15.75 per game or $60 for the season.

DuffMan

Wasn't it $10/game last year? That seems pretty steep.

A tradition unrivaled...

National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Percentage wise, quite a bump.  No doubt SJU is adding value with more cameras, better replays, etc that will put all those free streams to shame.

It was $40 for the season, if I recall.

Home game (in person) ticket price is $15. How does that compare to Bethel or GAC?

BU football alumni get free season passes - unsure what the going rate is at Bethel.

I looked and couldn't find it for BU. Mary Hardin Baylor is $10
for reserved seats: https://cruathletics.com/sports/2009/8/4/GEN_0804094612.aspx
And Mount Union appears be $10: https://athletics.mountunion.edu/sports/2021/7/23/tickets.aspx
Wartburg is $6: https://go-knights.net/sports/2010/6/21/GEN_0621103733.aspx
North Central is $8: https://northcentralcardinals.com/sports/2009/2/12/GEN_0212093719.aspx

My Johnnies appear to be gouging a bit and I'm a bit bothered by it.

I'll pay it.  The money to make us nationally competitive has to come from somewhere.  I say my $60 lays claim to some part of the Johnnie program.  I have dibs on Syverson's shoelaces if we beat Trinity.
