Speaking of the Tommies, an oldie but a goldie.  I miss the bad old days at times.

Years ago, the chaplain of the Johnnie football team was a beloved old priest. At confession one day, a football player told the priest that he had acted in an un-sportsman-like manner at a recent football game. "I lost my temper and said some bad words to one of my opponents."

"Ahhh, that's a terrible thing for a Johnnie to be doing," the priest said. He took a piece of chalk and drew a mark across the sleeve of his coat.

"That's not all, Father. I got mad and punched one of my opponents."

"Saints preserve us!" the priest said, making another chalk mark.

"There's more. As I got out of a pileup, I kicked two of the other team's players in the in a sensitive area."

"Oh, goodness me!" the priest wailed, making two more chalk marks on his sleeve. "Who in the world were we playing when you did these awful things?"

"St Thomas."

"Ah, well," said the priest, wiping his sleeve, "boys will be boys."

I think it was Patrick Reusse who had an article in the Star Tribune recently: The MIAC needs a third team. He wrote the article saying it could be Augsburg. Consider me skeptical.

I will see the SJU crowd on Saturday-looking forward to another labor day weekend game in person. And see you all the following week at UWW-would be nice to finally see a win there!

I actually think Augsburg is trending up. They played a Roste-less BU tough last year and seemed to improve throughout the year. I also think they've got an HC with a vision of what he wants to build, and some energy behind that vision. To be seen if it's them entering GAC space, where they are 'good but not quite great' every year, or if they will really challenge. I'd bet their emergence does eat into GAC's recruiting footprint a bit.

Do GAC and Augsburg compete for the same general pool of students?

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Augsburg is trending up, yes. They played Bethel tough, yes. They (generally) got better as the year went on, yes. But their Bethel game last year wasn't just their best game of the season, using my opponent-adjusted game scores, that was the only game all year where they played as well as a typical Top 25 team. Every other game they underperformed a Top 25 team's expectation by at least 2 TDs. A historically weak non-conference SOS is the only reason they were even above 0.500 last year.

SJU/Trinity Game Notes are published.

Some new faces in the predicted lineups. Surprised that BJ Stewart is not listed as WR, KR, or PR for Trinity.

I wonder what Duff thinks about Augsburg.

He's probably the one behind all of the optimism.

DuffMan

Glad to be known for my Auggie hatred, but in reality, I detest just about all other MIAC schools, especially when they're playing SJU. :P

Northwestern vs Augsburg has been moved to Friday night due to the expected high temps Saturday.

It's not like it's going to 110*. It'll just be in the upper 90s. That's perfect opening season weather for football.

95 with high humidity in Minnesota is equivalent to 130 in low humidity Texss.
