Don't get in a pissing match with a Texan, AO.

A tradition unrivaled...

We always start the football season talking heat and humidity,  and end it wondering if anyone will challenge Duffman in the "last turn on" furnace competition.

It's not like it's going to 110*. It'll just be in the upper 90s. That's perfect opening season weather for football.
95 with high humidity in Minnesota is equivalent to 130 in low humidity Texss.

You do realize not all of Texas is a desert right?  We have rivers, reservoirs, and even the Gulf of Mexico! I may have an oil rig in backyard. It's possible I rode a horse to school.

Did the tumbleweed blow through town today yet?

;D

That is an great question if you saw my yard right now. Water levels in the reservoirs are full, but we haven't had any rain this summer. Should be good for dove hunting this week though.

Texas does have some advantages with the heat. We're used to it and have better facilities for dealing with it. Most high schools have a IPF or covered field. More buildings have AC. We also have cooling units for the bench areas.

Been out of town 5 days for a family funeral - got back this afternoon - so a little tardy sharing this info. Got the alumni pre-season letter from Coach J and his staff just before I had to head out, so here is the quarterback status as of publication date sometime earlier last week. "Competing for the spot we return George Bolt who has firmly held the backup QB position these past two years ... Also competing for the starting spot is Alex Call who returns after a knee injury sidelined him last season." Newcomers: Ryan Bengtson and Albert Rundell.

Augsburg and down

I think it was Patrick Reusse who had an article in the Star Tribune recently: The MIAC needs a third team. He wrote the article saying it could be Augsburg. Consider me skeptical.

I actually think Augsburg is trending up. They played a Roste-less BU tough last year and seemed to improve throughout the year. I also think they've got an HC with a vision of what he wants to build, and some energy behind that vision. To be seen if it's them entering GAC space, where they are 'good but not quite great' every year, or if they will really challenge. I'd bet their emergence does eat into GAC's recruiting footprint a bit.

Do GAC and Augsburg compete for the same general pool of students?

Yeah, I'd think so, especially with the new regime in Auggie-land. GAC will have more out state players, but I'd have to think there's a fair amount of overlap in the metro players they are going after.

I will say no they don't really compete with GAC for student athletes. Lamker has a different model for recruiting it seems and he has a plan. He could be the next Steve Johnson you never know.

I just about spit my coffee out. First, Lamker would have to be turning around Hamline for that comparison to work. Second, if half the Lamker stories I've heard are accurate, his coaching successes aside, he's nothing like Steve Johnson. One memorable quote, when someone asked him about playing with Hvistendahl. Lamker "I made Scott Hvistendahl." Hvisty seemed to do just fine his Sr year without Lamker tossing him the ball!

But to Logan's point. With the protected schedule setup in the MIAC and a UMAC non-con strategy, we need to see Augsburg with a little tougher comp to really know if they're making a jump. It's not the wrong way for them to build. Scheduling WIAC or top ARC teams probably keeps them at .500. They need to get some seasons pushing 7-8 wins so they can build confidence, before they step up the non-con slate IMO.

Well, Duff Jr. had his first football game last night.  He had a lot of fun, but we unfortunately came up on the short end of the scoreboard.  This also confirmed that there is no way on Earth that I could coach youth football--wrestling and baseball, I can handle, but I am happy to enjoy these games as a dad.  ;D

Play Northwestern because it's low cost and they're often the best team in that conference -- no worries, that's fine.

Way back, Augsburg played Eau Claire. That would be OK.
They've also played Wartburg -- great rivalry in wrestling, obviously, but not a good match right now in football.
But how about someone like Dubuque, Loras, Coe?

I thought that might get a reaction!!  I was thinking in terms of coaching but hey I understand your frustration. We will see how he does, I was unaware of such statements made by Lamker.

SJU/Trinity Game Notes are published.

Ice Bear assumes the Johnnies will travel with a plethora of talcum powder in order to prevent constant batwing this weekend. Ice asks, can anyone confirm this?

Ice is looking forward to the Johnnies trip south and hopes they take Trinity to the ****ing woodshed. Ice wishes his newly beloved Bethel Baptist Royals another productive week of practice in preparation for a high ****ing end first game against the likes of Wartburg next week. Ice says that may tell us out of the gate how the Roste-less Baptist Royals will fare against really tough competition. Ice is curious if George "Usain" Bolt will be the guy behind center this season. He assumes so. The Bear looks forward to chomping some seal this fall and watching Geebli run all over the ****ing place. Ice says one of the greatest gifts is FOOTBALL season before hibernation.
