The video is still bad?
I guess spending money to travel was worth it!

A Trinity fan commented on the in game update board that they missed 15 plays.

I thought the video quality was good, they just have to train their camera operators on how to follow the ball. You can't have multiple camera angles just completely miss plays. That's a basic task, even for a free stream—completely unacceptable for a pay-per-view to miss plays.

It's not a production quality issue, the multiple camera angles are nice. It's just having the discipline to realize when a play is starting and developing, you don't get cute and cut to the zoomed/tight view. There's a reason big-time broadcasts are always wide-angle at the start of the play. You don't know where it's going, if it's a pass or run, etc. Use the other angles for replay's to add flavor to the broadcast. I'd guess about half of the deep plays in the game were missed or jarring coverage where the camera had to zoom out or swing wildly to find where the ball had ended up. Those tend to be really important plays you don't want to miss. If it's a free broadcast with student production crew, I have all kinds of grace. But when you ask people to shell out $15, you need to have the best product out there.

I'm very nervous about the Bethel v. Wartburg game. Not having week 1 to get new guys up to speed isn't ideal, especially when the position most in need of a tune up is QB. I won't be watching as I've got a motorcycle trip planned down to LaCrosse/Winona and back with a buddy. Hoping for a pleasant surprise upon my return home Saturday night!

Nailed it.

While I don't like St. Scholastica's camera angle that makes it feel like you're watching the game from 500 yards away, I get that they just aren't putting that much effort into the video production. And, for free, I guess they can do that. I'll leave it to CSS fans, alumni, and students to make that push for better quality. I only have to deal with it once every other year.

Good gracious, yes.  If your viewer can count the dimples on the football pre-snap, zoom out for Pete's sake.

I sent an email.  Certainly don't expect perfection from student workers, but hopefully some constructive criticsim will help them to improve.

There's also the element that it's week 1. So hopefully if there are students behind the cameras, they can give them some constructive criticism and get it corrected going forward.

I'm very nervous about the Bethel v. Wartburg game.

Is it too much to ask for a loss for both teams?  Can Johnnie Magic take care of that?  ;)

Now you're just getting greedy!

TBH, I cheer for all the MIAC teams in Non-con (gag reflex is stronger for some teams than others  8-)), because it only strengthens the entire MIAC SOS, seeding potential, and likelihood of a Pool C team.

I had no problem with Wartburg until Logan Hansen gave me a bagel last year. >:(

I hope you receive a reply, it would be interesting to learn from the production side why it's such a challenge.
Honestly, I don't think expectations should be different if we paid $15 or no bucks. When I agreed to the $15, I certainly didn't assume I'd be getting a better broadcast (aside from greater bandwidth).
If a student signs up for/tries out for the camera crew, they need to know what a proper angle is.

The JCU camera crew was the same on deep balls, and there were several critical to the game.

There must be something more difficult than my untrained self understands.

I did receive a pretty quick response from SID Ryan Klinkner--not his responsibility, but he said he'd pass the feedback along to those responsible for it.  Honestly, nothing will change if they don't get feedback, so I would suggest that anyone dissatisfied with the broadcast provides constructive feedback.

Surely there is a Johnnie with camera experience somewhere in the metro region who can come give some lessons to the campus crew.

Isn't Anthony Lapanta a Johnnie?  Unsure if he ever spent time behind the camera, or only in front of it...

DuffMan

Yes, LaPanta is a Johnnie.  Pretty sure I saw him in Collegeville this weekend.
