Yeah -- what you need is a producer to consult, someone to train people how to get good shots and then train the person calling the shots which angles to use and when.

Inexperienced producers get angle-happy and switch during plays and that is such a bad idea in this sport, really.

Have to reconcile with the prospect of another.500ish season for the Cobbers. As boring as their old offense was for so many years, they could at least execute it with the right QB. With the latest incarnation of the spread offense, the woes of no run game and throws to receivers' ankles continue from last year. The offensive line struggled all day, especially on the left side. When there was a hole to run, runners chose to hit the pile instead of the hole. Huge penalties. Defense looked more promising, but had some clearly blown coverages at times. Nice to see some fight to tie it up late, but then could not prevent the Blugolds from getting back into FG range for the winner. Tough loss to a team accustomed to losing.

Was told by some locals at the outset that the UWEC marching band would be the highlight, and that many home fans would leave after halftime. This proved to be true.

The conversion to the passing oriented spread (or at least away from the unique double wing) for the Cobs has been difficult, but probably needed to attract star athletes on offense. Personally, I wish they would have done it at least a decade ago if not more, but that's just my personal preference. I feel the loss of winning tradition will be difficult to overcome.

I have no doubt you are right, Checker, with regard to recruiting advantage with the spread O. I actually do prefer it, but no ineffective offense is easy to watch. Going back to last season, they do put up some big passing numbers, but have a very hard time with the short game (passing) and have no running game whatsoever. Maybe it was just opening jitters, a six hour bus ride, or face-melting heat, but it just didn't appear a year of experience offered any sign of sharpness. Maybe they just don't have the right personnel in place. While one Saturday does not a season make, I was hoping the Cobbs would show something indicative of a return to relevance in the conference.

Well, whoever is on the recap videos this year has started off with a bang!  This vid is very worthy of the game (plus it has a couple of shots we missed on the stream...).

Plus it had a couple Trinity highlights so it doesn't look like an overtime game was 34-0!  Love it

Great footage of the hold on the game tying field, the game saving takeaway and the game winning interception.
Also anyone want to bet that Gary was pointing at John up in heaven at the end of the video?

Dave McHugh already does this. I don't need to. :)

I hope you receive a reply, it would be interesting to learn from the production side why it's such a challenge.

I did receive a pretty quick response from SID Ryan Klinkner--not his responsibility, but he said he'd pass the feedback along to those responsible for it.  Honestly, nothing will change if they don't get feedback, so I would suggest that anyone dissatisfied with the broadcast provides constructive feedback.

Did Ryan indicate who the appropriate contact for such feedback would be?

Offensive line looked to be a big problem. I do think it was necessary to ditch the option, but the spread style they run is so vanilla its maddening. Defense has been good, but they are usually on the field most of the game with the no-huddle offense and the inability to sustain drives. Hopefully the new OC can add a few wrinkles, but if the first game was any indication, its going to be another 5-5 campaign or worse.

I didn't see this mentioned on the boards, but it came up briefly during the post-game show. Gary's mother passed away at age 89 on Wednesday, August 30. You can see Gary make an acknowledgement to "my mom" with the team at the end of the recap (at 2:06--you can see it, but can't hear it).

The funeral is Friday morning in Winstead. Gary discussed that it may slightly impact the team's travel schedule to UW-Whitewater--or he may simply drive separately.

I'd forgotten what a huge family Gary has.  RIP, Anne.

Listened to some of the "In the D3FB Huddle" hosted by Frank Rossi & James Baker & they feel that Trinity is a legitimate national title contender. Took a lot of grit for St John's to get back in the game & no small dose of "Johnnie Magic" to walk away with a win. I'm hoping our Johnnies will have made much improvement when we see them again on Saturday facing off against Whitewater! Will be interesting to see how we play, how prepared we'll look, & how it will turn out! Hoping to get to tune into the matchup Saturday night between Trinity & Mary Hardin-Baylor!
