What is everyone thinking on Auggie @ Gusties??? Breitbach for Gusties putting up some receiving yardage again this year so far. Auggie gonna make another move to be that "3rd team" in MIAC?

Breitbach is halfway to his 2022 production and accounts for ~2/3 of GACs production through the air thus far. The 24-7 loss to Stout looked a little rough compared to last year, but going 0-4 in the red zone and 0-3 on FGs (47, 32, and a blocked 40) meant a lot of potential points were left on the field for an offense that gained nearly 400 yards. Augsburg is humming to start conference play, and GAC may still have some questions.

Any word on Jimmy Buck and Van Erp?

You prompted me to look at the game notes.  Van Erp is listed as a starter but Buck isn't mentioned.

VOJ's Football Weekly starts in one minute (incredible timing).  I'll tune in and listen while I work this morning to see if they have an update.

EDIT:  Work has interfered.  Anyone else listen?

According to today's article on St. Cloud Live:

QuoteVanErp is expected to return this week while Buck will be out at least two more weeks, according to SJU head coach Gary Fasching.

Jerry is talking baseball currently.....

Earlier Gary said they "worked things out the past two weeks..."  (paraphrased)
Gary also noted Steve Johnson always puts together a Bethel team who will be ready to play (paraphrased)

So, does the wet weather predicted tomorrow change the game predictions in any way?

I think it favors the Royals. In recent years they've been better at pounding the ball than SJU. Johnnies haven't had a really good running attack since the days of Sam Sura. It also looks like the wind could really pick up by 2/3 pm. Rain and wind usually is beneficial to the team that can run the ball and stop the run. In two games the Bethel defense has given up a little over 50 yards per game on the ground.

Looking forward to the Bethel v St Johns game tomorrow.  Bethel has a great defense, but I don't know how many points they can score against the Johnnie D.

On the other hand, I was looking at the schedules earlier in the year and have been meaning to ask...what's the deal with the Carlton v St Olaf game in a few weeks.  I know it is for one of the best trophies in all of college football, but it is also listed as Homecoming for both teams.  Do they do that often?  I know they are in the same town, but I've been around organized football for 35 years and I've never seen a team play a Homecoming game on the road.  I don't know how close both campuses are, but Loras, U of Dubuque and Clarke college are all in a 10 block radius of each other, and I've never seen them play a dual homecoming game.  Is it a weird scheduling thing, a Minnesota thing, or just a Nordic Heritage thing?

Weather will have an impact. There is the possibility of lightning delay(s)- this could potentially stretch this game out. Advantage Bethel.

If the Johnnies can't run the ball, they could still potentially win the game but the writing will be on the wall for everyone to see that a deep post season run is not likely even if they were to beat Bethel a second time in the MIAC Championship game in November.

Speaking of playoffs, is the MIAC Championship Game aka SJU vs Bethel game two, year after year, about the dumbest thing the "braintrust" at MIAC HQ has ever come up with? Discuss amongst yourselves...

Looks like rain after 1:00-this probably isn't possible, but move the game to noon.

The forecast keeps shifting...was supposed to rain overnight in St. Paul and we didn't get anything.
Sure looks like it pour at at any minute.

Ice Bear

I'm hoping for a very entertaining and injury free game today between the Royals and Johnnies. I'll say it again, I think Geebli being out is going to be the difference as Bethel just won't be able to keep their D off the field. As good as they are the Johnnies are the Johnnies and a tired D just won't cut it. Let's go Bethel!

We've seen some good non-conference games that really helped and hurt some conferences, especially for the push for the small amount of pool C bids. Excited to see what madness shakes out in conference play.

The cynic in me was proven wrong. The Johnnies could run the ball against Bethel. RB by committee may the just what the Dr. ordered. Kudos to the SJU staff and OLine for making it happen.
