Your neighbor Lamker is a good coach and definitely legit.

I guess we'll find out on Saturday.  :o

I recall my freshman year, there was a lot of hype around an undefeated Auggie Tech team that left Collegeville with a 55-0 drubbing. ;)

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24

Here's the targeting call, ya bunch of malcontents:

https://youtu.be/BEXx3A9AVEQ

It's funny that VOJ calls it targeting right away (before the flag) and then is outraged at the call, can't possibly believe it. Officials don't get the benefit of the replay on that

Ha! I thought the same!  "Bjork might be sitting out the rest of the game" (or something to that effect). - then "THATS NOT TARGETING!!!!"

Oh well VOJ is gonna VOJ.  If you know what you're going to get - he's still fun to listen to.

Game went about as I expected - BU's defense was never going to hold up all game long without the offense getting them some good breaks and putting some points on the board.  Curious to see if the offense will be able to do enough against the rest of the Skyline in order to earn a re-match.

Because it's not targeting.  It's called tackling.

Whatever minor helmet contact may have occurred was clearly incidental--Bjork clearly went in low.
Defender comes in head down eyes looking at the ground, crown of the helmet contacts the QBs facemask, pretty easy call.

Does it feel good to be right all the time?  Does it!?!?!?!?
;D  The rules definitely put the defender in a tough spot, we're basically asking them to play as if they don't have a helmet and they need to completely avoid going in head first but the offense will  be going head first and low.

Couple of things on the targeting call:
1) the QB's head and body are leaning away from the press box toward the visitor sideline when the hit occurs. This camera angle does not give a great view of the extent to which there was helmet-to-helmet contact. We don't get an end zone view or anything from the visitor sideline to further inform us.
2) that being said, I do think that there is initial or simultaneous contact with the crown of the defender's helmet and the QB's facemask. The head snapping back is what gives that away in my opinion. A true clean initial strike to the shoulder pads would have the QBs head continue forward and/or the chin drop for a moment before snapping backward.
3) the Head Linesman has the best view (and, really, the only one in position to make this kind of call) of this hit and he's the one that threw the flag.
4) there is incredible emphasis placed on eliminating hits to the head at the high school level, and I believe it is similar if not the same in college.

At the end of the day, the only thing I question about this hit is whether ejection is the appropriate remedy. It's a bang-bang play. I would not be inclined to have the ejection unless it is absolutely clear. I'm curious to see how the NCAA handles what will surely be appealed. My guess is that the next game suspension will be vacated and we will see Bjork on the field this upcoming weekend.

Doesn't the ejection in the second half mean he only needs to sit out the first half of Augsburg rather than the whole game?

My take is that VOJ was "speculating" on the call at first - what the penalty was going to be - rather than agreeing that it was targeting (he could have said "There's a flag, I think the ref is gonna call targeting there"). Then he saw the replay and his opinion was no targeting.

Here's a what if scenario...If Augsburg managed to win the Skyline division they would host the MIAC championship game. Edor Nelson field can barely accommodate 2,000 fans...last year Bethel at SJU had around 7,000 and the year before at Bethel there was approximately 5,000.
Where else could a championship game be played that would allow spectators actually watch the game?
St Paul Central high school comes to mind....it probably has double the seating of Edor Nelson and is geographically close to Augsburg. Also would cost a lot less than playing at a place like Huntington Bank (and gophers are at home).

Fair. I didn't see if the flag was already out before he made that comment, so in my mind, he was reacting to the hit not the flag

Yeah, the flag came out right away and the Head Linesman did a good job in terms of flag placement right at the spot of the foul. I read VOJ's reaction as being to the flag and speculating that he may have been calling targeting.

Don't they put up the dome over Edor Nelson Field sometime in mid- to late-November?

The Toms are on the road in San Diego that weekend. I'm sure they'd do the MIAC a favor for ol' times sake.  ;D

What would be really funny is having a game like SJU-Augsburg outdraw the Tommies on their own FCS football field.

I say this with nothing but love, of course. But we need to add VOJ incorrectly calling a SJU first down to the Johnnie Football Broadcast Drinking Game.

I was wrong...Gophers are at West Lafayette...but their stadium would cost too much.
I'm sure the Tommie$ would love nothing more than to charge a MIAC team a wheelbarrow full of money to play on their turf.

I don't think Augsburg would move the game.  If the game stays at Edor Nelson Field Lamker can limit the number of Johnnie fans at the game.
