Jay Murry

While I will be following from afar WashU's efforts against North Central, it won't be idle following.

I will be in the midst of my Rett Gets Rocked 2023 24-hour ultramarathon at WashU to raise awareness of Rett syndrome and research funds to find a cure.  I'm starting around 8:00 Friday night (after I provide the call for the WashU-Saint Louis U. swimming and diving meet), and ending at 8:00 Saturday night.

Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder caused by a gene mutation on the X chromosome.  It lays in the weeds until a child is between 6-18 months old, just when a child is learning to walk and talk.  Rett is like Lucy in the Peanuts comic strip when she pulls the ball away from Charlie Brown, as he tries to kick it.  Unlike Charlie Brown...when Rett pulls the ball away from children, they don't get a chance to get up and try again.  Children go into severe neurological regression; many end up in wheelchairs and most lose the ability to talk and to do sign language.  Those with Rett also are prone to seizures, extreme nerve pain, GI issues, breathing abnormalities, and eating difficulties that can all be life-threatening.

Researchers are relentless, providing hope on two fronts.  Back in March of this year, Daybue became the first FDA-approved drug to target the effects of Rett syndrome.  Daybue helps blunt some of the seizures and has helped improve some vocal and gross motor skills.  Gene replacement therapy clinical trials in two North American locations have helped one patient sit up independently for the first time in a decade, and to grasp objects for the first time since infancy.

It is this momentum of hope and progress that I am trying to assist and perpetuate.

The families of children who have Rett and fight a tough fight every day, will be very grateful for your help.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and enjoy the games this weekend!

Ok, Bobby Z has been lurking on the furnace competition and now jumps in. His better half out of the picture for the week is a strong card he holds in the near term.

As far as St. Cloud area temps are concerned, I remember in the '80s when they moved the weather instruments from wherever to out by the airport and all of a sudden there were record lows being set left and right. I think they stuck the equipment in a bog or something. I've been skeptical of the low temps reported there ever since.

I realize I am out of the "zone" of inclusion, and understandably so, but I will state that we still haven't turned our furnace on and it's been a solid 66 each morning in the house here in Upstate.

Hoping and expecting Bethel to take Hamline to the woodshed with no injuries this week.

Game day!  50 with sun and gusty winds here in the NW metro, but more importantly, 68 unassisted degrees in our house.

I'm guessing it'll be pretty windy up on Mount GAC.  This should be a good test for SJU.  A win and anything less than 8 penalties and I'll be happy.

A tradition unrivaled...

With the wind it will be a good opportunity to run the ball. Hope to see 100+ on the ground.

FRIDAY FURNACE UPDATE

It appears we are down to 2 players left in the "Last Furnace Turn On" competition: The reigning champion Duffman and a worthy challenger for the throne, GoldandBlueBU.

Now, to be precise the 2022 trophy was vacated as Duffman and family spent critical time at a local hotel due to home remodeling. Having not only heat but a sauna, hot tub and an indoor pool available forced Duff to relinquish the top spot. But he remains the current champ from several years prior taking home the bacon.

So, we have an SJU vs. BU showdown. Both have admitted some level of issues in the home. I don't recall Duffman mentioning the Mrs, ever asking about the heat before. Usually he has her all bundled up in SJU/CSB hoodies and other warm clothing available from past X-Mas gifts. GoldandBlueBU mentioned 60 degrees being a red line so perhaps he is walking the balance beam as well.

Typically at this point in the competition Retired Old Rat shows up and tries to enter the fray. However, he lives (or has lived) in an apartment with neighbors on either side leaving only one exterior wall. Section 101(B) of the rule book specifically states that there must exist at least 2 exterior walls in the residence for that occupant to be eligible. So ROR you are once again outside looking in. Or inside looking out, however you want to phrase it.

It is left to each contestant to report via their own recognizance. Once the calendar turns to November there are no losers in my book. Good luck and always be the Master of Your Domain!.  8-)

I'm still in the running. I am on a corner; therefore two exterior walls. No south facing exterior wall; therefore very little solar assistance.

Does this count? In my garage watching the game.

Congrats to the Gusties. Will certainly be favored in their remaining games

I'm sure the Johnnies will still be in the rankings, but they don't deserve to be.  That's an embarrassing loss.  I put my SJU flag back in the rafters.

Same here...texted this to buddy:

This team does one thing well...throwing the ball is all we are good at. We don't win the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball..we don't tackle well and we don't have any kind of running game. ****ing pathetic!

We're also back to a potential rematch with Augsburg at the end of the season. This time it's likely to just be for pride.

BDB

GAC is an average MIAC team. SJU proved they are just above that level and can lose to that level.

This team can't be regionally rank when those rankings come out-I am Hanson will have us out of the top 20-he seems to be pretty accurate.
