What's SJU got in the QB pipeline? Any MN D1 walk-ons like Erdmann or Syverson to look forward to next year?

For the record: I like the conference structure. Benefits everyone.

What if I told you there was already a FCS transfer on the roster who had multiple FBS offers and a supportive dad?

;D :o ;D
I miss following Dr K's shenanigans on Twitter. And since his son still doesn't see the field, he's calmed down his schtick on gopherhole but would love to see him pop up here (sorry Pat).

I was on the division format sucks train for all the reasons mentioned here (sfury hit a couple that irked me in particular) at the start but switched when I realised it gave the conference champ a heavily boosted SOS.  If you want a chance in the post-season then you need that strong SOS.  Of course, that means you have to do well.  A year that is mediocre for everyone gets stupid results, as per the earlier observations.

I guess it comes down to the program's goals.  If they are the conference, then play all sides.  If they are the nation, then you need that SOS advantage.  SJU has doubled down on national competitiveness (this year so far aside) so the die has been cast as far as I can tell.

I can see the reasoning behind the division structure.  It saves the bottom sides from a couple ass-kickings and it gives the tops sides the best positioning for the post-season.  This comes at the cost of integrity of football as a conference-centred sport along with the possibility of bass ackwards records for a conference champ in a season without one or two dominant teams.

I guess the powers that be felt that the conference was very strong with the other sports and I think they thought helping the perennial cellar-dwellers avoid a few dispiriting triple monkey stomps was better for conference solidarity.

Anyways, I'm cheering for Carlton as my second team now.  They have their destiny in their hands late in the season, which doesn't happen often.  Maybe if they study a few new plays they can make some of their own magic.  Knights cracking open the playbook as we speak.

Welcome, friend. I am hopeful that their next two games will be competitive, but I am not expecting it. They still have a lot of ground to make-up

Johnnie posters on the board were flipping out during the 4-4-1 1986 campaign.

I can only imagine the agony that John would have been going through during that.  :o

Furnace had to come on this morning.

We were gone a couple of days for MEA, and got home yesterday evening to a house that was 65 - the lack of activity and cooking make a big difference I guess!  That led to a house that was 61 this morning, and an edict that we turn on the heat.  Happy wife, happy life.

61 would have probably broken me, too.  I imagine I'll have to turn it on in the next couple of days.

There is a funny theme from the SJU posters of "this team is average" or "this team is bad" or  "this is the worst team in the past 10 years", combined with "the stupid division format is screwing us out of the playoffs!"  Not sure how those statements co-exist.

I don't think most (any?) Johnnie posters think we're getting screwed out of playoffs by the MIAC divisional format.  We're getting screwed out of the playoffs (potentially) because we have an underwhelming team.  Personally, I've been a vocal critic of this "MIAC Championship" format since it's inception.  Sure, I liked the SOS boost that SJU's gotten the past couple of year, but I still think it's a stupid system.

What Duffman said, SJU knew what they had to do and didn't do it. The way the Northwoods is right now, it's a one game season between GAC and SJU to make it to the MIAC championship game (hopefully, Scholastica, St. Olaf, and Carleton will keep improving). For the Skyline division, Bethel, Augsburg, and Concordia have a two game season amongst these three teams to decide who makes it to the MIAC championship game. I get the SOS argument, but it just feels inherently wrong to have your entire season come down to your performance to one or two games.

Also, as a former bench warmer, I feel bad for the backup players that don't get into as many games as they used to with the divisional play!

I think we can make it until the weekend without turning on the furnace, but not sure if we will make it through the weekend.

If scenario could be a near lock, I think I'd prefer GAC playing in the MIAC title game and SJU taking the pool C bid vs. having GAC lose to the Hot Carls or/and the Oles and SJU playing BU for the pool A bid.

This tweet says SJU is pretty safely in, which surprises me:

Division format to the rescue.  Not endorsing it, just saying.  If we want the opportunity to be nationally competitive, the current format maximises that opportunity.  I know that no one disagrees with that statement.

Me, I want the opportunity to be nationally competitive.  So that is an endorsement.  And further, whether we play the whole conference or just four teams for the championship opportunity, it doesn't matter because we have to beat GAC either way.  On my list of concerns, the division format takes a huge back seat to the fact that we lost to GAC.  And that our defence is unusually pudding-soft.

Still need to run the table...next two Saturdays should be in the W column. I'm not as confident this team can win a week 10 game at Auggie or BU.
