DUFFMAN 2023 MIAC FURNACE LAST TURN ON CHAMPION!

I believe this was the toughest test Duffman has had in his long streak of winning the title. Several major challengers right until the end.

Congratulations to all our competitors, and enjoy the soothing sounds of that furnace kicking in just when you wanted it to.  8-)

This is probably the latest I've ever turned it on--it's been so mild.

Hold up on issuing this championship.......As a new entrant into the competition I would like to submit that here in Fargo this morning we had 61 degrees, with the added factor for bonus points the AC was still operating ....NO FURNACE running here yet.  I have two factors that helped me win; no kids in the house and a wife that produces heat like a nuclear power plant post menopause....

Furnace had to come on this morning.

Yep.  Came home to a cool house in the evening after being gone for MEA, and then it was too cold the next morning.

I'm proud of my team - it's the longest we've made it.

Extra podcast dropped yesterday and they think the Jays have a shot at one of the four at large bids. BU has to win out to make it to the playoffs.

I hope all is well fellas. I haven't been posting here as much and I miss it. Turned our furnace on Monday morning (I know I'm geographically disqualified). Wife woke up and had enough as it was 61 in the house. I said nothing and continued drinking my scolding hot tea. Any how, congrats to DUFF on yet another amazing run. This title may even outweigh the incredible ocean fish OZ caught earlier in the season. This is a very high achieving board.

Big game for Bethel this week against 6-1 Carleton. I'll be watching and I'm thinking that the Royals are going to take Carleton behind the shed...maybe that's a bit dramatic. Carleton comes in averaging 33 points per game but I don't foresee them getting over 24. You have a motivated and improved Royals team who knows they must win out. Stretch run starts Saturday. Bethel 42 - 24.

There's a new sheriff in town!  All hail Redtooth!

Congrats to the new King.
I'll never even be a contender for that title. We turned the heat on a week or more ago and have been using the gas fireplace for 3 weeks or more. Favorite thing about fall and winter mornings at home are a hot cup of coffee and the fire. Hits a little different this fall as the dog used to sit with me in the morning but he passed away last January. That's him with me on Jan 1, 2023...died 11 days later.

Sorry to hear about the dog!  It's amazing how efficient they are at finding their way into our hearts.

Thanks!
That pic was during my partial knee replacement recovery...he was with me everyday. It's crazy how they know when you're hurting.
He basically had a heart attack /failure at home on Jan 12 and died in my arms as i was picking him up to lay him down on his dog bed.

For any Johnnie fans with more insight than what I have, what do you attribute St John's underwhelming play to? Is this a one-off down year?

Like sfury pointed out earlier, I don't think this is the end of Johnnie football. SJU barely beat an average UST team in 2003 when they won the national championship. Sometimes teams lay an egg and underperform in a game or two during the season. Here's how I see it.

Passing Offense-Above average
Running game-Below average
Defense-Below average

Duffman has been saying all year that the front 4 isn't getting a lot of pressure and I agree. We just don't have an all-american D lineman this year that wreaks havoc and make opposing quarterbacks make mistakes or creates 2nd/3rd and long situations. The secondary has blown more coverages this year too. Two GAC touchdowns were wide open due to people missing/late to assignments (not to mention we didn't get Larson and Buck in to defend the Hail Mary like SJU practices). The defense just can't get off the field like they typically do (stupid penalties have also contributed to this). Although the passing game looks great at times, when it isn't clicking or we have drops, it forces the D to be on the field more. The lack of a running game exposes the D too with the ever important time of possession stat.

Agree completely...a couple things I'd like to add that are of concern.
We had 18 guys returning this year from a team that had home field for the playoffs last year. We had home field for the last two years in the playoffs and went 2 and barbecue both times.
With all that talent returning and 200 guys on the team our defense is giving up 26.6 ppg and 350.9 ypg a game. I did a quick peruse of the last 5-6 seasons stats and non of those really come close.
I get it that auggie and gustie have improved their offenses but our d has to get off the field...one of the issues could be that our offense scores too damn fast at times.
I wonder how many times we've forced our opponents to punt this year compared to other years?

Just looked up the punting....this year opponents have punted 25 times for a an average of 3.5 times per game...last year it was 69 or 5.75 per game. So in a sense teams are getting 2 additional possessions against us.
