Johns Knees

The Ezra Cleveland trade resulted in Bartch getting released. Hope he catches on somewhere.

Strange, because he started a few games early this year. I also saw him referred to as a locker room favorite by one reporter.

I'd like to see him get picked up by the Panthers. Our offensive line sucks with a suckiness that is beyond measure, so they could use the help.

First set of regional "rankings" are out.  Bethel takes the first spot because of the alphabet. ;)

Region 6
     Bethel     6-2    6-2
     Linfield    7-0    7-0
     St. John's    6-2    6-2
     UW-River Falls    7-1    7-1
     UW-La Crosse    5-1    7-1
     UW-Whitewater    7-1    7-1
     Whitworth    6-0    7-0

Lifted the above info from the D3 website.

Immediate observation is that only three conferences have teams in the regional ranking - MIAC, NWC, and WIAC.

Without putting carts before horses with two more weeks of games to be played, I will presume that Bethel, Linfield, and La Crosse will get the AQs from their respective conferences. That leaves four teams from this list.

1. Whitewater
2. St. John's
3. River Falls
4. Whitworth

If that is the order they end up in, regardless of their actual placement in the list, I think St. John's is a lock for one of the four at large spots in the post season tourney. If they end up lower in the rankings than River Falls, they'll be watching from home. I am not that good of a prognosticator to be able to predict when they would get picked, but if I understand everything that has been said to date, Whitewater will be first, which allows St. John's to be on the board for the last three rounds, if needed.

Let me reiterate, the above could only happen if teams go chalk to close out their seasons.

I've been wondering if large margins of victory / dominating performances, in the final two weeks, carry any weight for Pool C bubble teams?
And would two close games won by bubble teams have a negative impact their playoff futures?

On the recent podcast with Pat and the NCAA championship chair, the chair said that "a win is a win." Margin of victory or the circumstances of the win don't matter for purposes of ranking according to him. TBD if the RACs actually think that way.

Yes, though Pat and Greg firmly disagreed with him.  :D

SJU13

River Falls might have the toughest sledding the next couple of games with Lax and UW-O. Linfield vs Whitworth will (likely) decide their AQ last game of the season.

Thumbed through the scores and the SJU-STO game could've been a battle of the undefeated in the Northwoods if not for the 3 losses by a combined 6 points between the two (thanks mostly to GAC).

Barring upsets this week, SJU looks like they'll be heading NW to Moorhead rather SE to Minneapolis to round out the regular season. Hopefully we'll keep the penalty yards under 100 in the rematch.

I don't think the committee has ever considered the margin of victory in the last few games. That's definitely out of the criteria. Some committees have been more willing to compare scores or ranks against regionally ranked or common opponenents.

I think that it may not be the best practice to not include as much information as possible that would enable the best decisions to be made. Just my two cents.

100% agree and I think most would.
