No more letting off the gas when we've put a game away! I like the "Leave No Doubt" mantra!

By not letting off the gas, I assume you mean to leave the starters in and run up the score. Do you really think it makes any difference if you beat St. Scholastica by 50-7 versus 80-7?  If the game is already put away, then there already is no doubt. It would be better to put in 2nd stringers to give them some game experience, not to mention risking injury to starters when the game is already decided.

There's this word called "sarcasm"....also No Doubt is what the Linfield posters came up when they got snubbed for the playoffs years ago.  Their point was  win every game from there on out, get the automatic bid, and don't leave your fate in the hands of the committee and their arbitrary decisions on who gets at large bids.

After having to explain all this, I'm now officially crawling back under my rock Duff...

LEAVE NO DOUBT 2024!!!!!!!!

Sorry, sarcasm doesn't translate well in text. I have no problem with the 'Leave No Doubt' mantra, I just didn't agree with running up the score when the game is no longer in doubt.

Congrats to Ellingson on MIAC offensive POTW and Jung for d3football Team of the Week.

That makes it 3 weeks in a row for Jung on the D3 team. Has that ever been do e before? I know Zweifel at UD was name 7 times but I'm not sure how many came in the same season of concurrently.

TSIAH - The school in Arden Hills, MN.

I know a bit of the history between BU and the folks at D3 Photography - this makes me chuckle.

(Go to the bracket challenge for where I am getting this info.)

That's funny, but frankly a little embarrassing and unprofessional for d3photo. He must be a real peach lol..

One last rant. Starting with the eviction of St. Thomas from the conference. The MIAC, and university officials, have taken a conference with a proud football tradition and a solid national reputation and turned it into a laughing stock.

BU5758

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps not the laughing stock but at least made the conference as a whole weaker than it has been in years past. Who all was involved in making the decision?

Begin your search in Northfield. Follow the leads you uncover along the way. Don't forget that voting members included institutions which do not have football programs.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

If the Johnnies scheduled St. Thomas instead of Whitewater they're in the playoffs. Time to bring it back.

Yeah, like U$T would risk a loss to a lowly D3 team.  That wouldn't draw in viewership on Fox9+.

A tradition unrivaled...

Heh.  It would be their (and our) biggest game of the year.

As of now SOS doesn't mean anything. Bethel and SJU are better off scheduling one reasonably tonight non-conference opponent and one cream puff and push for MIAC to throw out the divisions. Having one league team 10-0 and one 9-1 or two 9-1 is as of now a better way to get two teams in the playoffs.

I'm not sure SOS has been abandoned.  I think this year it was, undoubtedly.  And I further suspect that was the case because they could see that SJU and BU could build an undeniable SOS by taking on hard non-conference opponents and then playing a stacked schedule in the MIAC.  I believe that the committee thought that the MIAC was gaming the system to essentially guarantee two teams in the post-season, so they unofficially ranked SJU behind GAC to make the most passive/aggressive point they could.

But I'm not sure SOS has been abandoned in total.  The backlash over their selection this year has rightly been extreme.  Their selections are undefendable on many fronts.  So from here they will either meekly crawl back into the dark and pretend this year didn't happen, returning to the published criteria, or they will announce a new system.

I think a good solution would be to limit Pool C selections to conferences with nine or more teams.  If six teams get you in, then a conference doesn't get a second look unless it has enough teams.  In fact, I would argue that Pool C selections should be considered in reverse conference size order.  Plus the published criteria or new criteria to be published.

Regardless, they will have to publicly discuss and publish new criteria.  The NCAA cannot return to the arbitrary selection culture of yesteryear.

Is there value for BU and SJU to stay in the MIAC for football?

I prefer something like the D2 earned access model (or a hybrid) to all the D3 auto bids. No offense to UM-Morris or Alfred St (and I acknowledge that D3 leadership has a different philosophy).

My idea would look something like this: expand Regional Rankings to ~9-10 teams per region. 'Pool A' conference winners must also be ranked in the top 9-10 regionally otherwise their conference's bid becomes an additional at-large for that year.

That could result in just enough additional at-large bids within the limits of 32 teams. Yes, you won your conference 6-4 Alfred St (congrats!) - but (IMO) Muhlenberg should be playing Mount, SJU instead of UMM (etc.)

Pat (or anyone in the know):  how often does the makeup of the national committee change?

This is a good idea, I reckon.  Auto-bids with a caveat of you gotta be ranked to get it.
