This may be the most Vikings season ever. If the team from the island of Misfit toys manages to make the post season... heh.

I said it week one and am sticking with it...Trinity will win the 'ship!

I guess we will find out next week. There's a post on the SAA board that says Hansen's ratings have NCC as a 25 point favorite.

On AO's original post - UNW volleyball has been on an incredible run for a number of years - I can't say that I've been to any games, but I do check their scores now and then and will certainly be looking to see how their post-season run goes this year.
Getting way ahead of myself here, but if the seeds hold up, Northwestern and Bethel could both be eliminating a Whitewater team on Saturday.
It took a pretty massive comeback (down 0-2, survived 6 match points) but we did eventually send Whitewater back to Wisconsin without the regional championship.  On to LA for the elite eight.

That's great!

I know next to nothing about Volleyball, but I would imagine that if you've got a team down 2-0, once they've come back and tied it, you're probably playing really tight for that final game.  My wife and I have met the Wilmeths before - SUPER nice people - happy for her and the team.

Also - AO - either you didn't post it here on the main board, or I just missed it - congrats on your pick 'ems victory, and thanks for doing it every week!

I love that Northwestern is great at volleyball. It continues that Minnesota connection in the sport across multiple divisions, and it's great that a UMAC program competes at that level.

I felt the same way when St. Scholastica was in the league and was having successful baseball seasons, although they never advanced out of a regional.

I don't know if tightness was really Whitewater's problem in the 5th set, we just seemed to put down the hammer. I'm no great volleyball mind though, still picking up little things even after several years doing the PA.

Minnesota certainly has some terrific volleyball talent, I was very impressed with what I saw from the gusties, bennies, oles and wildcats this year.

Not to mention Concordia-St. Paul, SCSU, and the Gophers (who are somehow struggling this year).  The mrs. is a big volleyball fan, and I have to admit, it is a fun sport to watch.

A tradition unrivaled...

The Johnnies were blanked on *OTY awards--I wonder when the last time that happened was?

Especially when we have the top record in the conference. That said, Syverson was the only player on either side of the ball who stood out. If Steve Johnson weren't retiring I might have a problem with Gary not winning COY. He is certainly deserving, having beaten the winner.

Sounds like Bartch got signed off the Jags practice squad by the Niners.

Syverson was the team MVP...without him Johnnies would have probably lost to Augsburg and probably Trinity too. Team was a few plays away from having 4 losses.
Next year will be one of the most challenging for Gary and the coaching staff. 18 returning starters and we seemed to take steps backwards. Defense this season was not a strength...the only thing the team did well was throw the ball and the QB is not returning.
