Quote from: BDB on June 05, 2024, 03:03:40 PMIn a WNBA-UFL-Goodwill Games Seinfeld Bizarro World version of the "Last Furnace Turn On" competition that happens in the fall, let me as the usual Kramer early tap out contestant admit that I did indeed turn my A/C on yesterday.

This is a MIAC/WIAC/UMAC footprint competition. Some of the guys like Texas Ole might never turn their A/C off, who knows. We might also have guys that refuse to ever turn on the A/C or in fact don't have A/C or if they do have no idea if it works or not.

So whose holding out and keeping the windows open and the fans blowing?  8-)

It's not so much a heat thing as it is humidity with me.
My wife and kids usually pack up and spend 4-6 weeks of the summer going out east to visit my in-laws while I stay home and work. The air goes off immediately as they walk out the door, but I will occasionally put it on just to get the humidity down--even if it stays nearly 80 degrees in the house.

So, in essence, my AC is used in a more European fashion rather than to blast all the time.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Unrelated - I saw that SJU picked up two good players from 6A State champs - Centennial.  My kids are in elementary in the district currently - so I went to a few home games, and then their entire run through the playoffs, as they were fun to watch.

Harper is a bruising type of a running back who also could break off a long run from time to time - played linebacker also - not sure which side of the ball he will end up on.

Cummings was a dual threat QB who mostly ran, but was a capable passer when needed - but just wasn't called on to pass all that much with their strong o-line and running game.  He also played safety - he's pretty athletic - could see him finding a home in a number of spots if he isn't strong enough at QB to play the position at SJU.

Looks like the Cummings kid can run a little 671 yds and 15 TD's and threw for 1112 yds and 8 TD's. Maybe SJU can build an RPO game around him. The last few years the best teams in D3 seems to have dual threat quarterbacks.

He can definitely run enough to support that - he's very athletic - open question is if he has the throwing skills, which he very well may - he looked solid enough as a passer when it was required - just a limited sample.

The red hot Hawks keep burning, baby!  Today they took down Greater Western Sydney.  They have won six of their last eight and three in a row.

Fantastic highlights:

and the final two minutes, designed to cause cardiac arrest:

Next week we take on the Richmond Tigers. They are falling off a cliff hard, but their long time champion, Dustin Martin (1x Brownlow Medalist, season MVP, and 3x Norm Smith Medalist, Grand Final MVP), will be playing his 300th game and teams always get up for these milestone games.

The media is officially saying the 'F' word now, Finals, in relation to the Hawks.  It's getting exciting at the halfway point of the season.

I remembered to do a "I wonder what Ben Bartch is doing" search and... he's competing for starting centre on the 49ers. He's been taking the starting snaps at camp.  Wow. That would be something if he makes that assignment.

I'm just checking in, it looks like all the usual suspects are still contributing. Carry on fellas and let's go  D3!

P4 D1 football is pushing my limits lately.

That'd be super impressive. If he can lock it down, it would be a move that would only lengthen his career. Proving versatile enough to play guard and center would give him a lot of free agent options down the road. Even if it was just as a key backup a team could plug in multiple spots across the line. Good for him!

@BDB

Are you getting the PM?  Are PM's working for everyone?

BDB

@Oz, lol

Yes it's working. Just noticed. Still getting used to this new format.  :D

PS: Go Oilers!

Good.  I'm struggling with a couple features as well.

Note to Pat: progress and everything is nice but us old duffers like things to stay the same.

Old Janestownflashes don't die, they turn up on the salt flats designing propane-powered rocket carts that get to the bar much faster than an old lawnmower.

(It's good to see he's safety first.  With the helmet and everything.)

FWIW: Lindy's D3 preseason top 25 is out. North Central is 1st, Bethel 8th, and Johnnies 24th.

The beard even kind of matches.

I miss Flash, aka Old Pa.

BTW, it's ville, not town.  Flash would not be happy about the confusion.

I think it was '05 when I met OldPa/JanesvilleFlash.  His PM to me said something along the lines of "just look for the old guy that looks like Santa drinking beer from the trunk of a Cadillac."  I drove down there with Matt Darling and Charlie Carr.  He was easy to find. ;D Truly a solid guy!

I'm pretty sure you were with us, ROR, though you didn't pound the beers that we did.
