Quote from: repete on September 10, 2024, 08:26:20 PMOK, I've got nothing but respect for anyone who takes on the often thankless job of  D3 SID, especially at schools with nationally ambitious programs such as Wartburg (or SJU).

But I got a chuckle out of the Knights' preview stat report.

The Knights rank in the top 50 in 15 various national statistics. They are tied first in winning percentage (1.00) ...

Something tells me this just might be an automated program and not the amazing Logan Hansen moonlighting! ;)

It's just two teams tied for first in winning percentage preparing to battle it out on Saturday 😉

Week 2 - 7 non-conference games, 3 byes in Augsburg, Carleton, and Gustavus.

Last week was not a good week for the MIAC in non-conference games, as the conference went 3 and 5 in last week's contests. Ooof. Here's hoping the ship gets pointed back towards its former winning ways.

Rockford University at St. Scholastica - Regents and the Saints in Duluth, pretty evenly matched and I hope the Saints prevail.

Minnesota Morris at Hamline - week two of the Cougars playing in the MIAC. They squeaked out a win against Macalester last week, but the Pipers should prevail this week.

Speaking of Macalester, the Scots host Martin Luther College and should be able to get a win this week.

The Cobbers head West to take on the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran. Here's hoping they can spring back from last week's defeat, but it won't surprise me if they start the season 0-2.

Another game with Lutherans competing this week is Luther College coming up to St. Olaf. The Oles should win this one handily.

The potential blow-out of the week game is Bethel going just down the street to take on the Northwestern Eagles in a Saturday night game. Lots of folks eager to see if the Offensive Coordinator that ran Berry's offense last year can do something similar this year at BU.

Game of the week has to be Wartburg at St. John's. This could be a dog-fight.

So, here's hoping the MIAC can go 6 and 1 this week, but won't be surprised by a 4 and 3 record.

Last year, in 2023, I purchased the streaming access to watch St John's home football games through Hudl for $66.30. This year the price rose to $82.80, but purchased so that I can cheer on the Johnnies! It was my understanding that the games would be available "On Demand" in the event that I was not able to watch live. Attempted to find Saturday's game, although I was able to watch it live as I was under the weather, but received a message that read, "This broadcast has been made unavailable by the owner." What a crock of crap! So much for "On Demand" if anyone who purchased a subscription has a conflict! Who would "the owner" be? I'd like to contact them!

Re: the price, SJU only had 5 home games last year vs. 6 this year. Just guessing that's a factor.

That does suck.  Duff Jr. had a 1:30 game this past Saturday, so I missed most of the game, but it was still going once I got home, so I was able to rewind and watch from the beginning. Being able to watch after the fact should be allowed.

I'm happy to support them & realize it's much much more economical than even making one weekend up as I live 5 hours away so the cost is not the issue. Makes sense that there would be a cost discrepancy with more home games/broadcasts. Not being able to access the game "On Demand" is ridiculous!

Quote from: Texas Ole on September 10, 2024, 05:13:14 PMSt. Olaf had a nice win last week.  They have been down for a few years now.  As for this week I think the game will be close.  This is going to be a huge rivalry game for both Luther and St. Olaf.

Honest question. Should Coach Killian and St Olaf have higher expectations? Their facilities are good and they provide a good education. What do the locals/admin think at this point? No disrespect, but competing with Northwestern and Luther seems like the Oles could be so much more.

I haven't followed the Norse in years.  Just looked at their record and yikes.  I think you are bringing up a very good question.  Two years ago we lost to Mac, but we did win in the aggregate.  It's been over 12 years since the Oles had a record over .500.  Prior to Meidt the Oles were about a .500 team.  I really think OJ had something going when he was the coach.  I know the school did not make it easy for him at times, but he thrived.  Losing him hurt, and the stories that I heard about the circumstances are quite frustrating.

What is St. Olaf in football?  The history shows them to be about a .500 team.  I can talk about academics and other issues around St. Olaf for football that make it a hard place to win consistently.  The truth is St. Olaf should be better in several sports.  That is going to take some serious commitment and planning by the stakeholders.  It has seemed for far too long St. Olaf wanted to try and copy every other school in how they operate hoping it would bring a measure of success to the programs.  What works at one school won't always work at another.  There is a formula for schools like St. Olaf to be successful, but I am not sure the leadership at St. Olaf wants to find that path.  Right now St. Olaf is without a permanent AD.  I think everyone knows that situation.  Hopefully the new one can find the right formula to guide the athletic department in the right direction.

Total bullsiht....we need to complain to the Athletic Department and all the way up to the president if necessary. I bought the season package specifically because it said "All Access Pass" and "Watch On Demand." (See photo below).
I will not be going up as much this season and I have a wedding to attend October 5th. This feels like a bait and switch (likely not intentional). Not a very "do unto others" kind of thing for Catholic institution. I'm also pretty sure that future opponents have access to games in Hudl...so there really are no secrets anymore. If this is the kind of crap SJU is going to pull to make a buck I'm pretty much done with the cheap bastards. I'm friends with someone on the Board of Trustees. I'll be messaging him tonight.

I haven't tried with Hudl, but with the previous service, as long as you had the URL direct to the game, it was always available.

That old trick doesn't work anymore on the Hudl platform. The real issue at hand is if "All Access" subscribers are able to "Watch On-Demand." That being said I did check on Monday afternoon and was still able to stream Saturday's game. Maybe subscribers get a 72 hour window?
It would be worth asking the question. Again my beef is that they promoted it as "Watch On-Demand" on the subscription page.

I checked with a friend that has MIAC football coaching experience. He said that every team in the conference is able to access game film of the other teams. In addition I did a google search of "NCAA football playoffs film exchange" and found this: https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/football/d2/2023-24D2MFB_VideoExchangePolicy.pdf
It's for D II but I'm guessing similar protocols exist for D III....meaning SJU isn't really able to hide game film from anyone.

Anyone looking to get answers to their questions could start with an email to any of these fine people. I'll probably start with an email to Bob Alpers.

In this day and age, it really is impossible to prevent teams from seeing game film. Even at the high school level. Probably not a great idea to alienate the fan base when you don't have to.

Two thoughts:
1. Even though the pay per view brings in a decent amount of cash it really limits availability. It's literally a free marketing opportunity.
2. If they're going to do pay per view why not allow us the pony up the funds to watch on demand. We could share with people interested in SJU.
Whatever...Happy Johnnie Challenge Day!

The rushing success or lack of success of the 3 Headed Monster coming out of the SJU backfield vs Wartburg will be a pretty good gauge of where the Johnnies are at on the D3 landscape.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
