Don't love the trend. Feels lazy to me. First downs are so crucial. Why would they stop making every effort to get it right? Does anyone know the "why" behind the trend?

I suspect it was a pace-of-play thing, where fewer measurements make the game go faster.

Having watched all the Cobbers games except St. Scholastica this year, it is quite apparent that as a unit, the Cobber defense is much improved over the past couple of years. Understood the opponents haven't posed the most rigorous challenge, but they are really getting good containment near the line, and haven't been getting shucked by an opponent's short passing game (so far) as has been the case so often. It will certainly be a tough test against the SJU offense. Cobbers can't rely on the defense this week though, and the offense has to click enough to help give the D a break. I haven't seen the offense work with that kind of consistency or efficiency yet. Will this be the breakout game?

I might be inclined to say this could finish well within the 28.5 spread it was given, but I feel the Cobber climb back into the upper echelon of the MIAC is still a work in progress.

Cobbers always seem to be a fly in the ointment

Last year our Johnnies scored 90 points and went for more than 1,000 yards of total offense in the two games played...I don't anticipate a let down in Moorhead today.

Well so far your prediction is not holding up.

Johnnies are going to lose and don't deserve to be a top 15 team.

This is replay of GAC 2023.

Just about.

Too many "just abouts" vs SJU over the years. Still, kudos to the Cobbs for giving em a run for the money.

What a performance by the Cobbers! They gave St John's almost all that they could handle! Hopefully the challenges & adversity presented today will benefit St John's throughout the remainder of the season!

Our defense has gotten worse each week if you look at the scores. After a shutout in week 1, we've given up 13, 20, 20, & now 31 points. Really hope I can witness in person this Saturday when I head up to Northfield a big jump in play by our defense!

Our defense is just ok.

Didn't hear the Brian B. analysis but it appeared safeties seemed a step slow on a lot of big plays. GAC surely got the recipe on this game tape.

This needs to be cleaned up....and in a hurry.

I'd guess SJU had the opposite response BU had. We didn't play our best and then had a key matchup to follow. Came out dialed in. SJU Played a near flawless game and had a team they knew wasn't the top of the league. As much as coaches preach "take no one lightly" there's a human element that's sometimes inescapable.

I'm not reading too much into your Augsburg result.

I also think after Saturday, GAC isn't as good as I expected, BU is better than we looked last week, and SJU still looks like a #1 seed.

How do we allow auggie to score 20? GAC shut them out last week. I'm sure the penalties had some to do with that. I was at a wedding and only watched snippets of the game.

Johnnies D has given up 51 points in two weeks. I'm reading something into it.

We are not that good on D and I expect GAC to expose us in two weeks.
Maybe get Charlie King on pass rush earlier than the 4th quarter?

Lastly...get it out of your head that SJU is a top 4 D3 team...maybe top 10-15 but with this defense we are 2 and BBQ in playoffs at best.
