I have never watched it.  Mrs Oz just texted me, "Cringe. Awful."

That's all I know.

If you can find a show called "Kath & Kim", though, it's very funny.  And it's the vibe that I expect Upper Middle Bogan is trying to capture.  A lot of inside joke on Australian culture though that are not apparent to the non-Aussie.

Speaking of Australian culture I was wondering if you've ever seen a YouTube video called Aussiest. Interview. Ever? Maybe he's a typical bloke, but as a non-Aussie it cracked me up.

Quote from: sjujohnnie on November 07, 2024, 09:04:48 PMRefresh my memory! Was Cooper Drews at St John's before transferring to Bethel? If so, what's with these backup QBs leaving the St John's program to land at conference competition & make it hard on us?!
Was he at SJU? Yes he was. My personal thought on this is they want to play and the MIAC isn't a bad place to be. The depth and talent at SJU makes it hard for these guys, especially at a spot like QB where generally there is only one QB1.....

Any insight on how our QB play will be following this season with Syverson's eligibility exhausted? We've been spoiled with Erdmann & Syverson! Who's waiting in the wings to fill some big shoes?
Currently #3 Zander Dittbenner had been the primary back up last year but has a shoulder issue and I believe he is seeking a medical red shirt for this injury. This year primary back up is #11 Leyton Riviere. I have no idea how this will play out just my observation from sitting in the stands. Both Erdmann & Syverson were heavily recruited by SJU out of high school and both opted for a D1 preferred walk on role. Ultimately both returned to enroll at SJU after a red shirt year at the D1 level. I have no idea if there is a similar situation with someone else who is in a D1 program somewhere.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

And the quarterback talent void at an otherwise relatively talented team probably helped make the decision easier too.

Looking forward to seeing how the Royals stack up against the Cobbers tomorrow.

I can empathize with a guy like Syverson wanting to use all his eligibility and a guy like Drews wanting an opportunity to see the field. Can't fault either IMO.

Yeah it's an intriguing game.
- First real competition for Bethel in a while, Cobbers looked very legit against SJU
- MIAC Championship Game appearance on the line
- For Cobbers a win keeps playoff hopes alive

Mac has said Bethel has basically been in playoff mode for the past several weeks. Game should basically have that kind of feel to it.

Heh, yes. And he's a Queenslander on top of that. Straight from central casting that guy.

Quote from: BDB on November 07, 2024, 07:46:23 AMVery sad to report that the Leinenkugel's Brewery in Chippewa Falls is closing. A major piece of the fabric of this area, they have always produced exceptional products which will now be moved to Molsons' facilities in Milwaukee.

Leinie's was a favorite topic discussed with 57Johnnie as he grew up in Chippewa Falls. We used to joke that the grade schools served Leine's Original at lunch instead of milk when he was a lad.  2 cents a bottle.

Anyway, carry on. Hamm's and Leinenkugels remain available, brewed somewhere.  :(
Two things come to mind when hearing of closings like this:
1) how the product will inevitably change and be just another label in some mass production facility, and
2) how keeping a family business together across six generations is insanely difficult. My hats off to the family for keeping it together this long. By the time you get to the third/fourth generation in most families, the descendants have such little connection to the core business that they just see it as one income stream among many and want to get the big paycheck. They'd rather take their equity and seek a higher yield somewhere else.

They sold the brand / brewery a long time ago...back in the 80's I believe?  Miller just kept the Chippewa Falls brewery open, in addition to brewing it at their larger locations.  Now they're just going to exclusively brew at the larger locations.

I read a little bit on the sale. Sounds like it either was not a complete sale or a sale with plenty of strings attached. Leinenkugel family members remained involved with the business well beyond the sale date that is referenced in 1988.

It's a shame to see things like that go. I went through plenty of Honey Weiss in St. Bernard Hall at SJU.

I'm watching the first quarter and a half which I missed this morning.  Syverson is so sharp.  Blakely is beast.

The Oles basically rushed 3 linemen all afternoon (unsuccessfully) and tried to disrupt SJU's passing lanes.  Syverson picked them apart (and had all the time in the world to do so).  And Mendez routinely had 2-3 steps on anyone attempting to cover him.

This is pretty impressive:
QuoteAfter throwing for 438 yards and six touchdowns in his team's 55-6 MIAC victory over St. Olaf at Clemens Stadium, the Saint John's senior quarterback now has 11,646 career passing yards.

That moves him past former Johnnie standout Jackson Erdmann '19 (11,639 yards) for first place in both program and MIAC history.

I'm expecting a tough game next Saturday.  I hope the weather stays mild!

Latest NPI has the Johnnies down to #3 and the Royals at #19. Oh, and Marietta punches in at #27.
