I don't believe the NCAA has done anything to change the format from highest seeds hosting through the semis.

I watched the game on the EPSN+ feed. The play by play guy sounded like that does the Gustavus games. His sidekick, Emmett Keenan (SJU alum) was on the call as well.
Did they bring them in because the Bear didn't want to sacrifice their ad dollars or was it to have a level of impartiality to the broadcast?
Just curious...I thought they did a good job.

Based on what I heard yesterday in the press box, ESPN requested hosts provide broadcast teams (could not be the existing radio broadcast crew)......that rule is based on ESPN's ownership of the broadcast rights to the championship (and having no control over the radio ads).

I really wish I could get the radio broadcast to match up with the video stream!

SJU has home field through the Semi's if they keep winning.

During the broadcast, VOJ said ESPN required no live advertising and WBHR couldn't do that ("that's the Willow's play of the game" etc).

So ESPN didn't want ads for The Blue Line Pub, "Do you see what I'm dealing with here?"

ESPN is out to squash the small, independent sports networks like the one that WBHR built off of Johnnie football?

If they thought about it, they probably would. But more likely it's the ESPN bull in a china shop.

stanbob

espn is a sub of disney, and they want to squash a lot of things.

From Charlie Walters in the Pioneer Press:

"It's not exactly a NIL benefit, but a University of St. Thomas football benefactor, who hoped to entice students to remain at designated games rather than leave the stadium early this season, offered a $2,000 tuition benefit to a student still sitting in a seat chosen at random."

Watched the Wart vs UWP game. Wart has a really outstanding Oline. One guy getting NFL looks, but all really good feet. A lot of pulling and misdirection. RB runs really hard, makes guys miss in the hole, and is tough to bring down.

QB is athletic and a good runner. Lots of reads and qb runs to setup PA. They utilize their TE's well. They use them as H backs and on the line with a lot of 12 personnel.

D is really good sideline to sideline. Decent size up front, but everyone can run. Mostly zone with LB's and DB's playing way off the line and then attacking hard downhill once they read the play. Really good at making blockers miss in space. Physical, instinctive, and lots of moxy. AA safety is really good.

UWP had some really poorly timed turnovers on drives in Wartburg territory. Honestly it looked like two really even teams, but one that just knew how to win in the playoffs and on the key plays.

They graduated a ton on D and their stud RB, TE, and QB from those teams that made the deep runs the last two years. This team has talent. I'm guessing the SJU result had a lot to do with all the new starters getting their footing and an Oline still needing to gel (hence 10 sacks against SJU D). Their stud RB Rud, went for over 150 against UWP and had only 3 carries against SJU. I'm assuming he locked down the role later in the season as he's rushed for 1k now. Obviously SJU had a ton to do with the result, especially how they shut down the run and made them one dimensional. QB got a lot of yards but 10 sacks is a ton to overcome.

They are built to win in cold weather games. Turnover battle, run/stopping run, and keeping the QB clean will be key for both sides. Both of these D's fly around and have playmakers. Should be a great matchup.

Hmm... sitting in a randomly chosen seat at the end of the game?  That's the same thing as competing against a full student section which must be 1000 seats.  Horrible odds.  Plus with only about 1500 people attending a Tommie home game, you would think that's at most 200 students.  So that benefactor only had something like a 20% chance to pay out the cash anyways.  Cheapskate.

Caught me by surprise, but they just gave a shout out to Bartch now playing for San Fransisco. Game just started...

Edit: #78 playing left guard...

Bartch is taking Trent Williams place at OT. Very big shoes to fill. He has also played OG and was listed backup center on the SF depth earlier this year.
