Amos Alonzo Stagg JR was a Susquehanna coach, not THE famous Amos Alonzo Stagg.

Actually, JR and Father both coached football at Susquehanna University.

I quote:

In 1945, Stagg joined his son, Amos Alonzo, Jr., as a coach at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. In order to be near his ailing wife, Stagg began coaching punters at Stockton Junior College in 1953, and he finally retired in 1960 at age 98. Stagg's recognized career record at Springfield, Chicago, and the College of the Pacific is 314–199–35, and he had 21 additional victories as Susquehanna. Stagg died on March 17, 1965 in Stockton, California.

As stated "He had 21 additional victories at Susquehanna."   ;D

Meanwhile, you guys have posted more about Susquehanna today than everyone combined on the Landmark Conference board this entire season.  :(

Yeah, it's the old monetization game. The account isn't big enough to earn YouTube revenue, so ESPN's and YouTube's return on enforcement is zero and they don't bother.

YouTube is like San Francisco.  If you shoplift less than $999 then it's not a crime.

I stand corrected, sort of.  Officially, Jr. was credited with the victories.

And I quote:

In 1981, when his father's status as the all-time winningest college football coach was threatened by Brar Bryant, Stagg petitioned the NCAA to transfer 21 of his coaching victories at Susquehanna to his father. Stagg and his father had coached the Susquehanna team together from 1947 to 1952. The NCAA denied the request, but Young Stagg told the press that the credit belonged to his father: "Of course he deserves them. We were co-equals but he was in charge. Everybody knew that." During the years in question, Susquehanna sent its records to the NCAA listing Young Stagg as the head coach, but some programs and guides listed the two as "co-coaches" or identified Stagg, Sr. as an "advisory coach."

How are all of the Johnnie fans feeling ahead of Saturday's matchup with Susquehanna vs how they were feeling ahead of the La Crosse game? I'm nervous, but hopeful! Not sure what to make of their two point loss to Cortland. Hoping the team doesn't look past Susquehanna! Speaking of looking past someone, the potential of a rematch with Wartburg or the third matchup with Bethel both sound daunting! Then, if we get past that game, to have either North Central or defending champ Cortland waiting . . . As the adage  goes - you have to beat the best to be the best. I'm just hoping that we're the best!

I feel pretty good about this game. Like 2003 v RPI, I think SJU rolls on to face Wartburg, although bethel is a very good team, I just don't want SJU to play them again.
Score something like 42-21

Sus looks like a really good team.  Elite offense, average defense.  It's so tough to draw any conclusions with no common opponents, etc.  That being said, I think SJU often has the advantage against teams that are unfamiliar with them--they present some unique challenges.  Also, SJU has Aaron Syverson.
I do like that the weather is looking to rebound this weekend!
I'll take the Johnnies.  I expect a close game, but I wouldn't be opposed to a blowout.  ;)

I agree, it is really tough to gauge a team by scores and stats. The Sus loss to Cortland by 2 points is nothing to sneeze at, I really don't think this is a weaker team from the East. I am expecting a game similar to the SJU-Aurora game a few years back. Two really good offenses that are tough to stop, but I think the SJU D gets enough stops to pull out a victory. 38-28 SJU

Not the first meeting if you look at all the teams they coached.  Carroll University has played the University of Chicago in basketball.

Duffman missed Saturday's game where in my opinion the SJU defense was pretty stout.  Deep in Johnnie territory with LAX looking to score, Johnnie D stuffed run up the middle with a superb 4th down effort and turned the LAX over on downs.  Momentum SJU.

I do agree Johnnie O is great.

I don't see any record of University of Chicago playing Carroll (Mont.).

My initial thought was the expanded playoffs have us playing a team I normally associate with being on the opposite side of the bracket given they are east of Ohio.

Their front 7 on defense look pretty big. Hoping our run game/short passing sets can create space, which is how we end up doing a lot of damage, for our mid/deep pass. Defensively we do well at swarming to the ball, but have had issues with opponents breaking arm tackles to pick up more yards.

The Cortland game looked to be at home which has its advantages. The stats from the Hobart game are interesting.

Boys of Fall

St. John's appeared to use a spy in the 4th qtr last week very successfully.  I wonder if they will do that again this week, especially if the Sus qb is mobile.  Does anyone know the status of McMahon?
