I honestly feel the only team that had a chance to knock off North Central was SJU. Would've been playing them at Clemens with a high powered offense. Still probably would have lost by 2 scores, but I think that's the closest anyone will get.

I have to disagree, fury.

It's not simply the score, and common opponents scores. It's the way they are overwhelming at the line of scrimmage. I believe they would do the same to SJU and Bethel. And, every other D3 team. I guess we'll know for sure on Jan 5.

Mount Union beat Bridgewater 66-0 in the 2003 semis...

But teams that look overwhelming on the line of scrimmage in most of their games get upset by teams that don't all the time.

Folks had these same arguments about NCC last year...right up until they got beat in the Stagg. By a high-powered offense. By a team that had lost by 3 to Susquehanna earlier in the season!

The good thing is neither of us can be proven wrong, unless the NCAA does the right thing and schedules a "real" semi between NCC and SJU to be held in this gap before the Stagg.

It would be really hard to play a D-III championship game today since we still have to eliminate two teams.

The playoff expansion added a week of games this season and moving forward.  The D2 playoffs have 32 teams, thus being able to get done this week.  FCS has a 24 teams playoff that starts a week later forcing them to break for Christmas and play the championship game the first weekend (now Monday night) of January.

These are impressive first half stats. If Mount Union can keep within a touchdown or maybe 10 points in the first half they might have a chance.

I agree with ROR...NCC flat out dominated. Susquehanna's d-line looked like a JV team compared to NCC. I'd put this NCC team up against most D2 programs and they would do fine in that non-scholarship D1 league that some school in St. Paul plays in.

That's not feasible because it puts a huge financial burden on every D3 program--they cover the cost of feeding and housing their teams prior to the start of the school semester.

A tradition unrivaled...

That and I have no problem giving the Stagg teams a few weeks to heal up and prepare. It's a gauntlet to get there, give both teams a shot at having all their guys healthy.

240 schools are not going to bring all those football players into camp a week earlier. That's a huge cost for everyone in Division III.

Am I missing something? Are there still 4 teams left?

I think the only thing you're missing is the passing of 24-plus hours since my comment. :)

You made the comment at around 6:30 pm which was after the 2 games had already been played and said we still have 2 teams to eliminate. So at the time of your comment, there were only 2 teams left, which is why I was confused.

My years of advocating for the Johnnies to pay more attention to JUCO players paid off the past two seasons with the performance of Marselio Mendez. Will be interesting to see how the JUCO world transforms if last week's ruling involving Diego Pavia becomes the law of the land. Two years in junior college would not count toward four years of NCAA eligibility. So, for instance, Johnnies would have Mendez for a few more seasons. Like the portal and NIL would add some more chaos to college sports but I'm sure prove useful to top programs.
