I tell everyone I meet that I am a "Recovering Minnesotan."

I was born there, grew up there, went to college there, but now I've been "in recovery" since 2007. I had a short seven month relapse after getting out of the Army in 2012.

The Vikings have been dead to me since the love boat scandal back in the mid-00s. Sometimes I actively cheer against them ("anybody but the Vikings") but lately I have become indifferent to even actively cheering against them.

While on paper this was a great Viking team in terms of win-loss record (definitely a top five team since 2000), it didn't feel to me like my die-hard Viking fan friends from college had that much emotional investment in the team. Is the entire state becoming that jaded?

Sam Darnold cost himself 10s of millions over the past two weeks.  Somehow, I think he'll still make do on the $10m or so a year he made this year and will likely collect similar amounts the next few years.  Somewhere else.

Anyone planning to watch the national championship on Monday? Curious to see if Notre Dame makes it close or if this Ohio State team truly is in a class of their own this year

I consider myself a Notre Dame fan. I'll be watching. Ohio State is excellent, no doubt, but not invincible. Go Irish!

Not a fan (or hater) of either team, but I think OSU wins by two touchdowns. Michigan proved they aren't invincible, but I also think it woke them up.

Bob Z, how did the CSB dance team do at Nationals?  WCCO TV gave a lot of coverage to the Gopher squad.

ROR, so kind of you to ask! (and I am sure the rest of the board has been waiting on the edge of their seats since I didn't see any of you at the tailgate).

St. Ben's took 5th in both Jazz and Pom in the open (smallest) division. Mankato took first in both Jazz and Pom, Duluth took second in both, and SCSU took 4th in both (which did not make CSB too happy).

Minnesota is crazy talented with dancers. The Gophers are incredible and compete in the top division and have won the most national championships of any college team. UST did well in the middle division and are also very good.

I promise this will be the last post about dance until football season.

Bob Z, congrats to your daughter and her teammates.  I didn't see you at the tailgate either.  It was pretty crazy.

Well, it looks like Minnesota is #1 in at least one athletic category.

SCSU has to be good at something (other than hockey).

They're very good at wrestling.

Nobody is going into teaching anymore....my brother in law used to supervise student teachers from SCSU and they didn't have enough students in their program.
Glad my kids are grown because in the next 10-20 years there won't be teachers.
