Anybody else feel there was a real lack of player leadership this year?  There were some outstanding individual performances this season, no question, but I never felt any sideline intensity or game-taking-over players.  I know Gags stresses a calm, laid-back corporate type approach, but I really missed seeing a lot of heart from our guys this week.

J esq,

I think that the defense missed having a fiery leader like Jamie Steffensmeier. He plays with a ton of heart and at times, I felt like this years team played a bit uninspired.

Offense needs a go to guy along the lines of Blake. Don't get me wrong, I don't and never will expect anyone to live up to those standards, but when it's 3rd and short or when we need a TD late, no one has been consistently able to come up with the big plays.

Gearman has been good, but hasn't taken that next step. I think injuries have hurt his ability to be that guy ths year.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

I think Dumo played that role on the defense.  Also, at least this last game, Jamie Steffensmeier was on the side line trying to fire up his team mates.

I think maybe Jamie's play was missed more than leadership.

Tuxguy

DC_Cobbs ....... Just alittle twist to the fans problem you talked about.  I sit in the main stands, but Mrs. Tuxguy enjoys walking the sidelines. Yes we know of a few blow hards who get sometimes over the top, But what about when a player starts the trash talking? After reading your post,  she told me about one of the Cobb players who was taunting the fans, and said he started it! Thats all these guys need to get them going. I wont give his #, but could. Other  than that, all I saw was great class shown by both teams and fans.

Sorry,...... I hope other than the score you enjoyed the trip and had a good time here. Sometimes there are 2 sides to a story.

That was one heck of a game sat!!!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I am still a little tentative with Kofoed. He has been a tad inconsistent so far in his first two seasons. He's young, I'll give him that. But c'mon, this is Saint John's. How many times did we hear the receiver was underthrown last Saturday, besides hearing the "f" word?

johnniepress

His performance against Wis.-Eau Claire in the opener provided hope for the future. However, the TD-Interception ratio failed to change.

Well, well, well boys, where do I begin?
I turn my back on the board for a couple of days and, BOOM, the season's over? I was feeling bad for not even being able to listen to the game on Saturday, now it seems like feeling bad for not having that root canal.
Looks like the season ended like it started, with a lot of hand wringing about fumbles and turnovers against a team from Wisconsin.
But, not many teams make it this far, and we are spoiled with the success we have had over the years at St. John's. All in all, it was a good season.
I really enjoyed being involved on this board this year and getting to know another group of ne'er-do-wells and the tailgating has been awesome.
To help myself feel better, today I put next year's games on my calendar (p. 18 of the 2005 Media Guide - http://www.gojohnnies.com/football/05mediaguide.pdf)
Why do we play St. Thomas in St. Paul again next year?
And one more thing...Tommies suck!
Time to go home, have a Hamm's and reflect on another great year of Johnnie football.

I am debating driving up for the game. But the 45 mins it took to get from McMinnville to Dundee (like 12 miles) after the game makes me think twice!! :o It sure made me miss I94 after a Johnnie game!! ;)

Bennie-  Next time DON'T take 99W through Dundee.  Check with the locals to use the backroad to go into Newberg by way of the road north from Lafayette (Abbey Road) and then east to UBG (Newberg).  You'll miss a LOT of traffic.

DC_Cobbs

Tuxguy, so you think that our players started the situation?  I kind of doubt that, but it doesnt really matter anymore.  The trip was a blast out to Oregon. Thanks for asking.  The game was also in my opinion a great showing.  Although i do think we got jobbed by the refs. at the end of the first half.  They didnt call one holding penalty on the Cats all day.  But i must say that your offensive line was by far the best we saw all year, then comes our line! ;)  Best of luck next week.  Hope to see you guys next year up here in the snow and real grass! :)
