As a former Knight I would say that Brann left because Beloit is an hour from Chicago and that is where his wife wanted to be.  (That's where her and her family are from I believe)

I also don't think that the resources, as in money, at Carleton is an issue.  The administration is usually fully prepared to invest money in things.  Resources, as in how many football players the admissions office is willing to accept in a year might be an issue.  Carleton is a small school and maybe the administration isn't willing to have such a large proportion of its incoming class be football players.  That could be an issue but there are also plenty of players who meet the admissions standards that can still be recruited.

Johnnie Esq.:  I think that it is likely that Brann did see that a pretty sweet pot,  and some mixed up notion that making a bigger name by winning the MWC than being competitive in the MIAC combined  with his wife being closer to Chicago would have been enough to swing him away.  Hopefully the recruiting process and fervor stay in place and the College makes a nation wide search a priority.  I know that most alums have a pretty large interest in this hire.  Carleton has fallen on tough times in the last 10 years but there are quite a few alums who are starting to make the big bucks that were around when Carleton was a perrenial top half finisher.

Brann's wife's family is from Florida, as is he, so I don't think that's the main issue here.

Carleton's administration is committed to winning and Brann was well on his way to another stellar incoming class that could have helped the Knights get over .500 next year.

Other issues that developed throughout the year were probably more responsible for this departure, and I think it's best to leave it at that.

It'll be interesting to see if they promote someone from inside the program or go with an outsider. Either way, they'll need another solid recruiting class this year.

I think Beaver will run over the MUC defense to set the record.  That's all I got.

Did anyone else catch the Channel 9 news this morning?  There was a short interview on shoveling injuries with Dr. Chris Palmer aka 1995 Gagliardi Trophy winner at WR for SJU.

Steve, welcome to the board!

It appears you don't feel comfortable being specific about the "other issues" (which is fine and probably understandable), but can you talk generally about them?  Are they school-related, personally-related, or team-related, for example?  Feel free to message me personally if you wish, but throw us a bone here!  ;)

Rather interesting last 24 hours here in Carver County. Last night I am in the parking lot at the Chanhassen Legion prior to entering the facility for a Chaska area football association year-end dinner. A young couple comes out of the Legion and are in the middle of a rather heated argument. The woman, who is holding a young child, is walking behind the father, who may or may not be her spouse. The father is one of those guys with an earring and a definite attitude. He sees me and asks, "Whose responsibility is it to take care of the kid?" I give him the only responsible answer and say, "Both of you." His response to me: "You a$$hole!" Needless to say, I just kept walking.

The other interesting story involves a crim sex case that one of my assistants, who happens to be a Cobber, is prosecuting this week. Yesterday he and the defense attorney got the jury picked. The defendant was alleged to have sexually assaulted a ten year girl. Testimony was supposed to start this morning. We find out this morning that the defendant took some wire last evening outside his place of employment while in his vehicle and strangled himself to death. Justice denied here, granted in the hereafter.

Dr. Red;  That's inaccurate, I never said "asshole"!  developing....

I've deprived you guys of my presence for far too long.

finsleft-  You missed out on a helluva party on Saturday night at the Carpet.  It was a doozy.

I'm pretty surprised about Brann leaving Carleton.  It seemed they were heading in the right direction...hopefully the new coach can continue that.

Any Stagg Bowl watching parties this weekend?

Hey Frank- I heard it was good. Sorry I had to miss it. Rick called me on Tues. from the Timberwolves game, courtesy of Bacardi. When do you get the MB tickets so we can go?

Frank - If by Stagg Bowl you mean watching Tubby's (as in father of Saul) on the tube, I'll be there. Oh, and put down Jan. 21 down in your calendar. That means you too, fins.
Willy- I checked my calendar for 1/21/06 and your name's already in there, says "SCSU basketball". Is that the same team SJU just beat?

Where you guys watching the Stagg?

Kind of sad, really. If you read his whole email, which my son sent me last night from SJU, you can't help feeling sorry for the guy but admire his integrity. Email me if you want to read it.

Johnnie Red - Then remember those times when our jobs seem boring or mundane? Wow!

...if it was Dusty, the woman would have been holding a girl with 6 more girls walking right behind her.
