Fat Tire is good stuff.  A friend from Australia introduced me to it a couple of years ago.

Nice to hear they drink something in Boulder besides the watered down local brew.

NEW SID at SJU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from the SJU website

QuoteRyan Klinkner Named as SID at Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (12/22/05) – Ryan Klinkner has been named the sports information director at Saint John's University.  Klinkner began his new duties on Thursday, Dec. 22, and will be responsible for all aspects of promoting SJU's 12 varsity athletic programs.  Klinkner replaces Celest Stang, who was hired as assistant athletic media relations director at St. Cloud State University.

Klinkner, a 2004 graduate of SJU with a degree in psychology, comes back to SJU from the SCSU athletic media relations office, where he was a graduate assistant for the past year.  He served as the primary media contact for the SCSU women's hockey team.  Klinkner was a student assistant in the SJU sports information office for three years during his undergraduate studies in Collegeville.

A native of New Ulm, Minn., Klinkner is currently working on a master's degree in sports management at SCSU.

A long time apprentice of Michael "The Hammer" Hemmesch, Klinkner knows the ropes around the SJU SID and should definitely get the Gojohnnies.com website back up to the quality we are used to!

Some of you might know Klinkner better as JohnniePress on these boards.

Maybe he can use his New Ulm connections to get Schell's served at the concession stand for Johnnie home games!

Fat Tire rocks.  TDT blows.  Congrats to Johnnie Press.

Touchdown Tommy

From the Shooter this morning:

St. Thomas Academy graduate Tom Cross has left his offensive coordinator's job with the Macalester College football team and will focus primarily on coaching the Scots' softball team.

and

New Macalester College football coach Glen Caruso was an impressive speaker at last weekend's Nike coaching clinic in Minnetonka.

TDT's Conclusion: Mac is gonna be a wrecking ball soon.  Look out MIAC their new coach is an impressive speaker.  Johnnies are in for a world of hurt from the daunted Scots.

KR's conclusion:

TDT is a cocky idiot who doesn't realize MAC is no longer a MIAC football team and MAC is not on SJU's football schedule any time in the next 2+ years.

Good to see the trend TO carried of talking in 3rd person is being carried on by yet another ignoramus.

Johnnie Red

Congrats to Johnnie Press. In addition to hopefully bringing Schell's Beer to Collegeville to be yet another corporate sponsor for Johnnie football, as in, "Please open your program to page 14 to see if you have a bottle of Schell's Bock beer stamped in red," maybe Johnnie Press can get Martin Luther College on the schedule in place of Northwestern or, even better, Bethel. ::)

DuffMan

JR, no Northwestern on the 2006 schedule for the Johnnies.  Unfortunately, we still have to play those Royalpain in the asses!

Thanks for the kind words. I will continue to do my best to keep the bar set high in the SJU sports information department. Hopefully the job will become full-time soon. The son of the brewmaster (Marti) at Schell's went to Gustavus before being deployed to Iraq so it may be an uphill battle, but I'll try. As far as MLC goes, I believe we tried a couple years ago but they denied us. That would have been a sight to see.

Blast from the past:

I found the following picture whilst I was surfing around (procrastinating) on http://www.tailgating.com starring such illustrious D3 posters as JR, Veek, SJU56321, Duffman, and myself as well as some members of my convoy that brought the beef 1500 miles to Salem.

kilted - Did you have to recruit the lone girl so we couldn't mock the Stiftungfest as a Sausagefest? :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Veek

KR - +1 for coming across an old great pic.  That was the start to one hell of a day!!

Too bad Zip's wife didn't make it to the game.  We could have had another shotgunning contest if she had been there.
Go Johnnies!!!

That was actually a buddy of mine's gf at the time. Interestingly enough after spending 30 hours together in a car over a 3 day span, they decided they would be better off if they saw other people and less of themselves.

At least a little Zip made an appearance!

Notice the absence of red cups... this is because the Salem Quickie Mart only had clearish cups.

For anyone keeping score at home, that pic was before I got well into the bevvies and into my game day kilt, also, Papa KR can be seen at the extreme left of the picture. It was his great thinking that snuck 3.5 liters of vodka into the jeep for the pre-game festivities without Mama KR catching on.... Like father like son!

KR, thanks for posting the tailgate picture. So many great memories from that week. Driving the burger up to Maple Grove Thursday night to handoff to you for the trip to Ohio and then Salem. The Johnnie party Friday night at the hotel. Going out to the parking lot Saturday morning around 8:00 a.m. to get set up for the Stiftungsfestivities. Meeting a few Mount fans that I had gotten to know in 2000.

Having Austin Murphy show up for the tailgate party along with so many others. And then the game. It was the Perfect Season in so many ways. I don't know if we will ever experience another season like 2003. Everything went right: John becoming the winningest coach in college football, great games against Bethel, St. Thomas and Linfield, Blake winning the Gagliardi Trophy and the huge win over Mount Union.

Stumbling to the Waffle House at 3:30 am.  Getting kicked out of the Waffle House sometime after that.  Making it back to our room.  Passing out in my room with three in the bed (apparently, it makes sense to have two showers in a room, but only one bed) at 4:30.  Being picked up at 7:00 am by SJU56321 and son, then proceding to drink Icehouse provided by Veek at 8:00 am.  What memories!!!

That brings back memories, KR. Drinking out in the open-cops being cool. Holding the Walnut & Bronze in the parking lot after most everyone had left. If only Mrs. knew what she was missing-I'm sure she would have been there. Will keep the shotgunning practice going for this coming season-look out Duffman. :D AND no TDT!
