Tmerton, yup, I've heard that he'll be gone by the time #2 son steps onto campus.

A tradition unrivaled...

Gone like a freight train, gone like yesterday...

Good riddance!
Rumors of him going to SCSU turned out to be false. Heard he's headed to Canada. Once he's there, I'm all in favor of increased border security. Forget Mexico, string a fence along the north border!

BTW, what's the deal with 3.2 beer in MN?  They used to have it in OK - where they had the amazing law that girls could buy 3.2 beer at age 18 (it was the only alcohol they could buy) but boys had to wait untiil they were 21.  As a sidelight for you lawyers, the lawsuit that challenged that law (successfully) went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court - Craig v. Boren , 429 U.S. 190 (1976).  (Further sidelight: The judge for whom I clerked had written the opinion that the Supremes reversed, and I was able to say "I told you so" since I had argued against his decision to uphold the law.  It's nice to be right every decade or so.)

They used to say that drinking 13 3.2 beers was the same as drinking 12 "strong" beers. Really, after 12 or 13, what's the diff?*

Funniest thing about the Craig v. Boren case: Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote an amicus brief on behalf of the ACLU!   :o

*(not that I've ever had that many)

If you consider "strong" beer something like 5% alcohol, then it's more like 8-9 "strong" beers.  It all gets the job done, though.

For the sake of one of your fellow MIAC posters living in FL, how many Zima's does it take to get the job done.

PS - Sorry to pile on TDT, but U89 could not help himself.

Johnnie Red

finsleft, I know, I know, it is difficult to say something positive about the Tommies. One does have to respect the success of their softball program. Add to that the fact that my sister-in-law is a Tommie (though she was smart enough to marry a Johnnie), as is my niece. If I should ever say anything positive about Bethel, call 911 and ask for the psych unit for Johnnie Red. :o

Looking for some small town fun this Saturday night? Head to Belle Plaine, MN for German Day. The bars, as they were for St. Patrick's Day, will be packed.

JR - You could have easily offset said comment by referencing the Tommie choke in the recent baseball playoffs -- top seed losing to #4 Hamline in the first game of the MIAC tourney after breezing through the conference at 16-4.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

coco

Hey, JR,

Weren't there times when the former DAIRY PRINCESS cooked up some of that famous burger of yours at the tailgates? I believe so.....

From Howstuffworks.com:

"In Colorado the beer sold in grocery stores has to be low alcohol "3.2" beer. It can contain no more than 3.2 percent alcohol by mass. But the beer sold in liquor stores is labeled by volume, and most beer is about 5 percent alcohol by volume. But when you convert from weight to volume you find that the "3.2" beer is really 4 percent alcohol by volume. Still a pretty big difference, but maybe not quite as big as you might think."

So presumably, "grocery store beer" in MN, as in CO, is 3.2?

DuffMan

Yeah, grocery stores and gas stations sell 3.2 beer.  Your son (once he turns 21, of course ;)) will have to stick with the liquor store for real booze.  Not a big deal in St. Joe, as long as you have the foresight to make it there before 10pm.

Or swing by the La at 1 AM when you need a few cases/another keg/couple liters of whiskey!!    Getting hired there was one of the best moves I ever made   ;D
My grandmother is over eighty and still doesn't need glasses. Drinks right out of the bottle.  (Yasmine Bleeth comment valid unless prohibited by your College's code of ethics for Alums)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....but I am sad to report the passing of arguablly one of the greatest Johnnie Fans, and more importantly a great guy in SJU alum Rich Hall.  I have no other details than that he passes away today.  Thoughts and prayers for his family.

raiderguy

I lost a great friend today.

No words can describe how much his friendship meant to me.

The 50 yard line will never be the same.

A Martini never quite as dry.

My thoughts and prayers to all of the Hall family.

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!
