Johnnie Red

finsleft, I agree, it was strange to see the bodyguard there with Mr. Young. Since he was in Chaska, he probably wanted to err on the side of being safe given all my previous reports of the strange things that do happen in this city.

Yes, I was at Grand Old Day yesterday with my Badger son. I met up with OAS and Ms. 1500. Remind me to carry my driver's license with me next time when I go to this event. In order to get a wrist band so you could get into the adult beverage areas, you had to show your DL. My son had his with but dear old dad did not (mine was back in the car in the parking lot at UST). I told the person selling them that I was 52. She said sorry, that won't cut it. Needless to say, my son got a laugh out of that. I then asked the woman if I had a St. Paul police officer vouch for me if this would permit her to give me a wrist band. She thought that might work. I approached an officer and explained the situation to him and the fact that I was on the same side of the law as he was. He gave me the thumbs up and that was all it took.

Can't believe how many persons have tattoos all over their bodies these days. Maybe it is time for me to get "Johnnie Red" burned into my back, or better yet, "I love Bethel!"

Duffman, you got it right.

TT, I am just trying to watch out for your best interests. We do want you to be able to return home to Florida and hopefully stay there forever. >:(

Coach Fins,

How did the Scheels team do in the double header over the weekend?

I coach my son's Little League team. He's got a swing like Joe Mauer.  ::)
Well if you'd bet a Hamm's on a sweep, you'd be swimming in tall nectar right now. Only thing is, we got swept. My kid swung his first bat since last August and he's got a swing like Francisco Liriano.  :-[ Pitched 3 2/3 solid innings though. Our second game, 2 of the opposing players had skinny trimmed beards (15 years old? Yeah, right!) and the coach was a psycho. It was getting late and the game was tied after 7 innings. We agreed to go 1 more. Still tied. OK, 1 more and that's it. Top half of the last inning they score 4. With 2 outs and a runner on 3rd, he sends the kid to steal home. Catcher dropped the ball and still picked it up in time to tag the kid out. Never seen anything like it. He chewed out a kid on 2nd base from the coaching box, too, for not watching signs. "I'll make the decisions out here, not you!" What an asshole!

Fins, Crazy ending.

I know all about a**hole coaches and parents. I am the Team Manager for my son's hockey team and one of my jobs is to keep good karma in the stands. A lot of those folks have - karma down to TDT's numbers.   :(

After coaching for a while, you learn a lot about being a spectator, don't you? I've sometimes told the parents of my kids at our 1st team practice to not be "hockey parents".  8)
Only person I've ever kicked out of the dugout was a dad a couple of years ago for going off after the 17 year old ump blew a call. Sheesh!

Some of my toughest dealings with parents are when they are OUR parents yelling at OUR coaches. Or pissed about something OUR players did. Freakin' ridiculous.

Speaking of hockey, an SJU grad who played football is also a team manager over in the St.Paul area and our teams are the same age.

We are planning an interstate scrimmage next year between the teams.

He posts on here infrequently by the moniker of SamWill(some number).

We do business together and he has become a good friend.

Because of him I have my Coach G. bobblehead doll and my copy of the "Sweet Season."

Nice article.

Here's a short interlude in honor of Matt's sister, Kim (and an improving football program).

Isn't it time for football yet?

Haven't heard from Samwill47 in a while :'(

Not since he broke the news that Richie Hall died. I sent him a karma for being so nice to BDB, our pal from Wisconsin.

I appreciate you guys letting a WIAC type like me hang out in here. Makes me feel like I am home in Minnesota again.
