And the weekend is here.

As I consume beer numero uno, I wonder, what is the over/under on beers I consume tonight.  I'm throwing out there a conservative 16 guess.

That's the kind of outing Carlos Silva could stand to have more often.

Couldn't agree more!
Was anyone watching live? Why did Silva leave in the 6th with a pitch count only in the 60's and in no major apparent danger? MLB.com stat-tracker isn't real clear sometimes.

Interesting trade sending Castro to Cincy for an outfielder... Pat, got any inside dirt on the new minor leaguer? If there was one thing we didn't need with Ford, Hunter, Kubel, Cuddyer and Stewart coming back it would be another outfielder unless he's a solid prospect for the future type guy which seems the case since he's a 21-year old kid playing Class A ball. I always wonder a bit when a team trades a Major leaguer for a guy who's in A or AA.

Well, regardless of all else, it is official, Jason Kubel had more RBI's than the entire "potent all star" lineup of the Red Sox this series by a tally of 7-6.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Sh*t, had I known it was on cable, I woulda gone to school or a bar to watch!

Instead I sat at home following on stat-tracker breaking in my softball glove.

We traded Juan Castro today? For who?

Also reference the AJ Pierzynski trade to ease your nerves regarding prospects...got Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser in that deal who were basically throw ins as Joe Nathan was the gem we wanted back from SF.

PS- Do you still throw like a girl?

Minor League Outfielder Brandon Roberts.
From MLB.com:
QuoteRoberts, 21, is in just his second professional season of baseball and was batting .267 with five doubles, 15 RBIs and 23 stolen bases in 60 games for the Class A Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League. A seventh-round draft pick last year, Roberts will be sent to the Twins' Class A Fort Myers club.

Yup, I will probbaly continue to throw side-armed/like a girl until I finally decide to get my rotator cuff fixed. Just hope its good enough for beer league softball.

KR: Official scouting report will be assembled by yours truly early next week.  The Miracle have a nice homestand and I will let you know if this kid is the real deal.

He's a low-power, stolen base guy. He was a seventh-round pick last year so someone saw something in him once. Strikeout-to-walk ratio headed in the wrong direction this year but the Florida State League is tough on hitters and as you said, he's only 21. Looks like a better version of Cristian Guzman in batting numbers, though Guzman was in the majors at Roberts' age.

Learn to pitch and you'll never have to throw overhand again. A good slow-pitch pitcher is always in demand.

I could be wrong, but I believe Hunter and Stewart are FAs after this year. Besides, Kubel and Cuddyer are hardly proven commodities as yet - though both appear well on their way.

Ford, though an airhead fan-favorite, is hitting .221 with 2 bombs this year. If you remember back, his success was a complete surprise to the Twinks. I'm guessing this is more what they expected from him -- and why Gardy now only gives him spot duty.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Ford happened to go on a hot streak when he first came up, then turned mediocre ever since, getting the occasional clutch hit. Like my grandpa used to say, "Once you get the reputation for being an early riser, you can sleep 'til noon every day."
I'm surprised by the Castro trade. My hunch is, there's something Gardy and/or Ryan just plain didn't like about him.
Kubel and Cuddy will cover with their bats some not-quite-gold-glove-caliber defense. Just like Batista would've done if he could've hit near .300. He was terrible at 3rd, but at least he couldn't hit.

Frank, I took the over. What's the count so I can collect?

Maybe it is time to get out of Chaska. I'm at a picnic last evening and who do I end up sitting across the table from after serving up the Stiftungsfest burgers to everyone? A Bethel defensive back. Good thing I had my Johnnie football shirt and cap on. I did show him some sympathy and gave him the leftover burgers to take home.

DuffMan

Johnnie Red, I was on the river in your neck of the woods last night.  We launched out of Jordan and headed towards Carver.  I didn't witness any of that Carver County Craziness that we've been hearing about.

A tradition unrivaled...

Duffman, I hope you enjoyed the trip on the Minnesota River last evening. If I would have known you were in the area, I would have invited you to one of the local establishments for an adult beverage of your choice.
