Reason # 20,983,462 that Des Moines, Iowa sucks:

The entire rest of the country is watching Roger Clemens vs Francisco Liriano and the Twins on ESPN.

The Mediacom ESPN channel in Des Moines, Iowa has ESPNEWS on instead. Obviously who would want to watch one of the best pitchers in MLB history vs the BEST young pitcher in the Majors when they can watch a 30 minute loop of World frickin Cup soccer highlights and interviews with NY Times writers about whether or not Larry Brown should have been fired as coach of the Knicks.

2 more years and I am out of this sh*thole and never coming back.

The way it works is they have no choice. If the game is available on Fox Sports North then ESPN is prohibited from showing it in the home team's market.

Despite the fact that we don't get Fox Sports North down here?
What a load of hooey.

I guess thats the reason I can't watch Twins games if I bought the MLBTV deal either.

It seems rather ridiculous that in the Minnesota Twins "home team market" I don't get to watch the Twins play... ever yet if I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico I could.

Does this seem strange to anyone else?

Is there any option to get to watch an occasional Twins game short of convincing my school to relocate north about 120 miles?

A definite must view for all MIAC posters, lurkers, etc.

Jeff Foxworthy, Drew Carey, Bill Engvall and some other dude sitting around talking about how big their decks are.
this sucks... it seems like i never get to see any of the good stuff you guys link to this site. The f*@#ing middle east internet providers block everything. I can't even gamble online over here. :'(

So I'm teachin a chem class at a science camp for middle schoolers  (I know, I know, but the pay's good-and my assistant....WOW!)   My assistant is a 21 year old hottie (aka, the antithesis of most 21 year old Bennies) with the biggest set of personalities you've ever seen.   Anyway, she shows up today with a very low cut halter top deal and short skirt- I couldn't keep my eyes off of her the whole damn day...I found myself staring and forgetting what I was gonna say to the class multiple times-(God bless the short tables!!)   Worst part was I got busted by a little s***head 4th grader- "What are you looking at?  I think you're looking at Jessica's boobies!"   Bout piss-pounded the little runt, but figured that wouldn't be a good idea.   My assistant did ask for my number in case she "had any questions about the material" though    ;D

Someone's going to need a lawyer.   :D

OK. I'll be her lawyer.  ;D

Call your carrier and ask them why they don't carry FSN? Sorry, not sure, to be honest.

Um, gotta have cable/satellite to get FSN...Don't fret KR, Liriano was dealin' again tonite.  Belongs on the All-star team right next to Johan and Mauer and Morneau.

All Points Bulletin has been used for the safe return of Veek to MIAC PP.  Those credited with his reemergence will be rewarded with plentiful Hamm's.

Frank and Mongo: I hear that Ruttle's has a hot little number working there now.  Can you fellas confirm or deny this?  May overtake Patrick's as the preferred watering hole in St. Peter.

Saw Veek Sr. today at the town deli.  Rumor has it the Veek'ster is alive and well, and after seeing TDT's post, I will personally be calling him tomorrow and tell him to post!

KR,  Same frustration over here in Wiscy.

Son of BDB and I get goofy over watching Liriano against Clemens. But we get ESPN freakin' news as well.

We could switch over to OUR version of Fox Sports North and watch the Brewers.

Naaah.

Here's a little story from the Times on the upcoming Minnesota All-Star game.

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Stat of the day.  Assuming Clemens starts about every 5th game, he should get about 20 starts this season.  His $22,000,022 salary prorated for the rest of the season is about $12,000,000.  If he averages 120 pitches per game, he would throw approximately 2400 pitches this year which would average out to $5,000 per pitch.

And he got taken to the woodshed by a 22 year old kid making $327,000 for the entire season.

I went to school to watch it on cable. Mediacom (who almost sucks as bad as UST) doesn't carry FSN on their $60 for 70 channels programming. This ridiculous overpricing is why KR doesn't have cable, that and multiple bad experiences with Mediacrap customer lack-of-service back when I did have cable. Ever been on hold for 30 minutes waiting to talk to a customer service person about cancelling your cable only to be told you have to go downtown to the office to do that between the hours of 2-4 Tuesday or Thursday? It's kind of infuriating. Not to mention that their service technicians are as cognisant about their job as homeless people are about astrophysics.

Other random story about why Mediacom sucks, 2 years ago when I moved to this sh*thole of a town my roommate and I called to order internet service. The soonest they could get someone out was a week and a half. The dude brings along the so-called "computer expert" to help him set up our internet. After 2 hours of watching these monkeys hump the proverbial football, they left and said I needed to call customer support for assistance. I call customer support and spend 20 min on hold and 20 min talking to the guy setting up my own internet service on the day before a huge Biochem test. Then the bastards have the nerve to bill us $50 for "expert installation." It took 3 phone calls with a total of 40 min on hold and talking to 3 different supervisors to get it reversed.

Unfortunately Mediacom is the only cable provider in Des Moines and the only internet provider who doesn't require you to have a telephone line. The city was going to allow other cable providers in to compete a few years back, but mediacom threatened to pull all cable and internet access from the schools at the discounted rate so the city government balked. Now if you want cable in Des Moines it's either $60 for mediacrap or get a dish.

I definitely agree with Johan and Mauer and Liriano, but Morneau might be pushing it a bit. He has had a great June. Can't wait to see how many ChiSox Guillen loads his line-up with. If MLB didn't have the 1 player per team minimum, we might see the entire Whitesox line-up... what a joke.

Ummm.... Hello?  This is Veek... I'm chilling with KR down here in Des Moines. Please send the Hamm's to 641 35th St Apt 8 Des Moines Iowa 50312.
Thank you... ummm.. this is Veek signing off, back to the black Denali...

$60?  My latest bill from Cumcast was $95, so you're getting no sympathy from me :P

No, Veek's here with me, busting some kneecaps. Send the Hamm's to me and I'll se that he gets it.

I think Ozzie will do better with the All Star team, if he can get his sensitivity training done before then. I wonder if he'll still be taking in those WNBA games and Madonna concerts. Pretty funny, don't these teams have "handlers" to take the shovel from these idiots when the hole is already deep enough?

BDB- We're still waiting to hear who Bob Falls is. Another one-post wonder?

BDB

KR, I have enough pull to get cable built out to my house but that's it. I tried to get a dish for the real Fox Sports North so I could get the Twins and some hockey, but I was "tree'd out."

What really sucked was when Fox Net took over the NFC games. Instead of having the 2 CBS affiliates where I could get the Vikes on Ch. 4, I am now stuck with the one Fox channel with the Packers.

BDB finally stuck an antenna on his roof and put in the ole A/B switch for such situations.  :P

Kilted Rat

Your comcast probably carries FSN North though doesn't it?

"our" Mediacom carries the Oxygen network, lifetime, 2 japanese channels, 2 spanish channels (not the ones with the hot chicks), the "mediacom local" channel which is a blank blue screen 75% of the time, and all kinds of other crappy channels.

I wish there was an a la carte option for cable. I'd get the following and be perfectly happy: local CBS, local Fox, local NBC, local ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, FSN North, and CNN.

Instead, I bought the $20 rabbit ears from Radio Shack and now I get NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC, and IPTV. Enough to get most football games which is all that really matters.
