I'd say both of those HS teams on ESPN woudl have little trouble with NWC... as would Cretin, Eden Prairie and Wayzata. The differntials in size, strength. speed and overall quickness all favor the HS teams.
I had such hope that you weren't quite as ignorant as the rest of the johnnie fans, but apparently you have succumbed to the peer pressure brought on by KR.  Unless you're also trying to say that Cretin, EP and Wayzata could beat any team in the MIAC as well.  The differences in size, strength and speed between Northwestern and any team in the MIAC are not great enough to win football games.

Hello all. This is my first time on the fball board. I usually stay over on the hoops board. As far as the MIAC goes, pretty much any team in the conference should be able to beat a high school team, no questions asked. The only team that would make it interesting is EP. College football is a completely different animal than high school.

I haven't seen a lot, but from what I have seen from work, St. Olaf looks solid again this fall. Chris Meidt is amazing when it comes to running practices. His list of things is meticulous, but he's extremely orderly and the players and coaches are all business when it comes to getting things done. I'm sure SJU and CON will be good too as usual, but it should be a fun race for the conference between those three. Tommies will probably be mediocre.

So I'm riding in the Stiftungsfest parade yesterday afternoon. A woman starts shouting to me, "I'm Touchdown Tommy's mom, I'm Touchdown Tommy's mom, I want to take your picture!" I was stunned, to say the least. TT, I hope the picture turned out alright.

This is your formal invitation to attend the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party this Saturday at SJU when the Blugolds come to Collegeville. Starting time for the party is 9:00 a.m. We will have the grills going by 10:00 a.m. and will be serving the world famous Stiftungsfest burgers. Bring something to share and the beverage of your choice. The tailgate party is located in the parking lot behind the library, just above the scoreboard end of the field. This tailgate party will be in honor of the parents of freshmen players at SJU. Parents, please join us. Blugold fans, you are also welcome to join us. We will have some cheese curds to make you feel right at home. ;)

Woo hoo!  Can't wait.

So, I leave work at 11:30 on Friday, then enjoy a weekend at the cabin and I come back to 8+ pages of posts???  That is frickin' ridiculous.  You know that football season is in full effect now!

Fins, I've seen Hamm's 30s in several area stores.  I'll bring one for you for old time's sake.

Mrs. Flash told me we couldn't afford beer anymore and I'd have to quit.
Then I caught her spending $65.00 on make-up.
I asked how come I had to give up stuff and not her.
She said she needed the make-up to look pretty for me.
I told her that was what the beer was for.
I don't think she's coming back.

On a different but yet family matter, I had my 5th grandchild last night. A boy, making it 3 boys and 2 girls. None of them look like me, which proves there is a God. I will be celebrating starting at noon today with about a dozen Miller Highlifes, and probably 6 or 8 rum and cokes.......so......if there is a dumber than normal post by me between about 7-9pm, I apologize in advance.

Okay K.R. good news, bad news,  my wife got a sitter for the Drake UNI game thursday night,  sorry.   BUT, I have season tickets, and I am usually out of town over the weekends, and a lot of the Drake Home games are Saturday nights under the lights.  I have 4 tickets for the remaining season, and here is how the schedule at home lays out.  Sept 9, night, vs Upper Iowa,  Sept 16, night, vs UW- Platteville,  Sept 30, day, 1:00 vs Morehead State,   October 7, night (great game) vs Waldorf and lastly October 21, vs San Diego, night game.  Let me know if any of these would interest you, you would have a great time.  Sorry for the first game, but Waldorf and San Diego would be great games if your not in the cities.

tmert- to answer about the hockey situation and Drake, I'll give a brief history, from what I know, and PC can correct me if I'm missing something.

Drake was D3 through the 1980s and into the 1990s-- Dayton was also D3 through that time.  In the early 1990s, the NCAA passed a resolution requiring all sports that sponsored D1 basketball to be D1 in all sports, and created a new division (D1-AA) to host these schools.  This was in response to a philosophy shift from the NCAA as they wanted schools awarding scholarships to be lumped together in one division.  However, schools that had D1 sports other than basketball and track I believe were "grandfathered in" and could remain D3.

Colorado College, RPI and Clarkson could stay D1 in hockey (and soccer, I believe) as they have been that way for generations, but could only award scholarships to those D1 athletes (who cannot play any other sports at the D3 level I believe, either).  Johns Hopkins plays D1 lacrosse as well.

Two years ago D3 proposed a resolution to force any D3 school who wishes to sponsor any D1 sport to move out of D3.  This resolution failed, and CC, RPI, JHU, and Clarkson remain D3 members but D1 in other sports.

Today, other than the grandfathered schools, D3 institutions can still sponsor D1 sports, but cannot offer any aid based only on athletics to do so.  Thus, I believe Union is D3 in its program, but went D1 in hockey after the NCAA regulation, and thus cannot offer aid to its D1 hockey players!!!

Since the judge in NY enjoined any NWA strikes, we'll definitely be there.  Let the season begin.  8)

Thanks for the explanation, Esq.  Now just where does D2 fit in to the NCAA scheme of things?

Sorry to miss you this weekend but we'll be back for GA (Family Weekend) and I'm coming in solo for the dance contest on 11/11.   :D
