The only other thing I heard was that our #1 receiver Kyle Thomforde playing on the punting team made a hit on the hamline returner, forced the fumble and took it back for a score.  Did the johnnies put Blake Elliot on the punting team as well?

Oh my God, did he just say that?!?!

Don't change, AO.  Don't you ever [censored] change.

By the way, how'd the basketball season turn out?

TC: Why wouldn't I say that?  Was Blake Elliott too sweet to hit anybody?  I didn't think so.   You could look up how Northwestern Baskeball did for yourself if you wanted, you know. http://nwc.nwc.edu/display/418 These guys around here have enough problems with my posts about Northwestern football.  But we were 20-5 in the regular season, tie for conference championship and 3-0 vs. the miac.

also, i took a look at the starting lineups for johnnies-blugolds matchup on saturday and wow, those wisconsin kids have a much greater weight advantage on the line than I thought they would.  90 lbs difference at some matchups with an average of 60lbs between the 293 of Eau Claire and the average lineman at 230 for the johnnies.  Steffensmeier is back, but I feel like the blugolds and in mid november, Bethel are going to open up some freeway lanes down the middle of the field.

You know, someday Pat should make a separate posting page just for Basketball, but until then please keep talking basketball on a football board. Maybe when Pat has enough money to make this "Basketball Post-patterns" he can even give the UMAC a page where you can talk UMAC with people who actually give my a$$ about it.

If you watched the 2003 National Championship, Blake hit and ran through several linebackers on several occassions. He didn't do it as emphatically as our 170lb sophomore RB did, but he did hit some people. The amazing thing about SJU is we have enough football players, not just guys who will wear jerseys, that we can field a punt team without resorting to putting an offensive player on it. Crazy concept I know, putting guys who are used to tackling on a punt team.

You know, speaking of that National Championship game back in 2003, I swear someone mentioned something about MUC having a size advantage along the line, something to the tune of 75 lbs with the biggest differential being 210 Jeremy Hood against a 307lb dude. Anyone know how that game turned out? \\

SJU is always smaller on the line than their opponents... unless they're a team with really small crappy players like Northwestern. They use speed, strength, and intelligence to get past that. I'm sure Jerry Haugen would love to explain it to you sometime if you'd like.

MR,
Blake is now married as of July 29th, and I believe Hood is too or at least engaged. So I believe McCambridge is my only remaining option. I'm currently working on the technology to make that happen. Updates soon to follow.

How long until you and Porta are expecting? ;D

Sorry I am late KR,

Congrats on the 3,000 post.  But I see you are already to 3017.

AO--

No, I'm not saying that Blake was too sweet to hit people.  I'm sure he would have done just fine covering kicks if that's what the coaches asked him to do.  But when you have 100-some able-bodied players on your team, usually your all-everything WR doesn't put in much time on kick coverage (especially when he has a history of back injuries and all kinds of nagging maladies towards the end of his senior year).  For the record, I doubt Hoag covered many kicks in college, so I'm sure your boy will at least get a look with the Vikes...

I didn't ask how the basketball team did to be a dick--I know how to use the interweb.  I asked because I knew you were on the team and I thought you would enjoy discussing something that you had at least basic knowledge of for once.  Of course, I forgot about your insane inferiority complex.

Regarding SJU linemen being outweighed by eleventy-million billion pounds across the board, this topic has been beaten to death.  It get's brought up everytime the Johnnies face Mount Union or a Wisconsin school.  There's a reason these 6-3, 320 lb. "studs" are playing at a D3 school--they just aren't all that skilled.  Usually SJU's speed advantage is enough to compensate for the size they give up.

For the life of me, I can't find the height and weight numbers for 2005 Monmouth O-line, but I'm pretty certain they were bigger than Kevin McNamara (listed at 5-10, 201).  McNamara, of course, had 7 1/2 of the team's 13 sacks that day as Monmouth ran for a grand total of -3 yards.

Yeah, sorry.  That's my fault.  I really shouldn't have brought basketball up on here.

Now let's get back to the always-on-topic football discussion.

TC: The only reason I was reluctant to discuss basketball was that I anticipated KR's immediate hatred toward anything I post.

I agree that the pass rush of the Johnnie D-Line is in good shape with McNamara chasing down quarterbacks.  Losing run stoppers like Jason Good and Dumonceaux will be difficult to replace.  They may have been outweighed last year as well, but certainly not outmatched by the larger offensive linemen of Eau Claire or Monmouth as neither of those teams had any semblance of a running game against the Johnnies.  Regardless of how many hundreds of players the Johnnies have on their roster, they don't have the talent to replace those guys on the D-line this fall.

Ok lets see here if KR continues at his current pace of 20 posts per day; taking Sundays off as a good catholic boy; he should reach 4000 by lets see carry the one and...

Johnnie-Tommy week

may God help us all... maybe MR could help us with that ;D

Willy Wonka

Who is the most hated poster in PP history: AO or Sofa King? It's close in my book, as each spewed/s nonsense.

On to more important topics...Mongo recorded his first-ever eagle today at Mount Frontenac. It was legit, if you count the sweet kick from a tree in the deep rough to the green 285 yards away on his tee shot. It took him 10 minutes to find his ball, as he was looking no where near the green. He then cashed a 40-ish foot putt on a tiered green that was a thing of beauty.

Mongo then proceded to hit a parked car with a later drive, failed to reach the women's tee 10 feet away on another and went straight sideways into a water hazard on one of the last holes. A girl who opened the day with 12 straight whiffs (no lie) also outdrove him on at least three holes.

Golf is, truly, a game of luck with random shots of "skill" thrown in to keep you coming back for more.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willy,
On Oct. 15th last year a lot of us Johnnie posters officially adopted AO as our pet rally mascot. Who can hate a mascot?

Are you guys thinking back to the days you wish you could have carried Blake's baby? McCambridge's baby?  Hood's baby?

I've showered with those guys plenty.  Trust me, I don't want to have any of their babies. :P
