Fins and ROR--

Send your pics from yesterday my way.  I'm working on the Stiffy recap.  Especially want the pic of lil Fins after being attacked by the Grey Poupon!!

Nice to see many of you including Johnnie Irish who didn't quite make it to the tailgate.  He does have the starting Johnnie QB for the 2022 season.

Anybody else catch Bert Blyleven's major gaffe at the start of the Twins TV broadcast today?

For those who missed it, apparently Bert thought they were taping the intro to the game instead of it being live. As he and Anthony LaPanta were setting the scene for the game in 5 minutes, all of a sudden Bert says "Oh F#ck! We have to do this over I just f#cked up! What? Oh we're live!"

I yelled to my wife, "Did you just hear that?!!"  My 7 year old son and 6 year old daughter were right there with me, and my wife (in the kitchen)said  "hear what?"  My son, watching with me: "What did he say dad?"

I said, "Oh, they were talking about Puckett."  :D

He has since apologized to the audience for his language a couple times.

Nice one Bert. 2 f'n heimers on live TV. You might get fried a bit on this one.  :-[

Let the comparison's [sic] against Gustavus, St. Thomas and St. Olaf rest until there is at least a common opponent.

You're the one trying to make the comparison, AO.

When you're as vocal and hard-headed about something you should expect to be called on it when you're proven wrong.
I the game resulted in us going 0-4 vs. the middle of the MIAC, I could be called on being wrong, but we played cornell.  I know everyone's real anxious to call me wrong, but you're going to have to have a little patience.  At least wait until next saturday.

And yes, I did think Northwestern had a pretty good chance of going undefeated.  I thought we would be the favorite to win in every game we played this year, and we were favored to beat cornell.  Some IIAC fans were predicting something along the lines of 35-7 in favor of Northwestern.  It's tough, but it's not like Northwestern is looking for a pool C bid or anything like that.  The postseason for Northwestern generally tends to culminate with the conference championship game at the dome.  The nccaa championship  game has felt more like a scrimmage to Northwestern where we try out new quarterbacks and strategies than a d3 playoff game.

And I echol Wonka's sentiment about the potential loss by the irish would have topped the weekend, indeed.  I'm still bitter about getting beat by carlson in basktball 7 out of 8 games including in the state semifinals.  How does Georgia Tech not find Calvin Johnson in the fourth quarter?  guy is just scary good.

Should I be pleased or upset that AO agrees with me on something?

As for Bert's comment...he's got a history of it. Check this site out (I'm too lazy to make it a cool link).

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

hey, out of 1987 Minnesota Twins pitchers in the news, would you rather be Bert or Jeff Reardon?

MM- I also thought Weber's emergence as a reciever was a good sign. But, I thought the J's had a great 2nd threat in Brandon Royce Diop. I heard he returned a punt yesterday but why didn't he play WR? Kofoed was a little shaky yesterday in my mind. With that said he threw for 300 yards while completing 23 of 38 passes. If those stats come on a bad day I can't wait to see what he'll do on a good day.

Fins- My source for information in the Northern Minnesota has informed me that there is a Pace Arrow for sale in Osage, Minnesota !! Looks like the market is saturated with Pace Arrows.......

WW, thanks for the link. His gaffe's today are already on there! Talk about keeping things up to date.

Ok-I understand the clarification-but why didn't the media say Robinson holds the record for most wins at one school? I didn't hear a lot of build up to yesterday's game, even in the SJU game notes.

Report from Moorhead:

Not sure what to say...

Offense looked stagnant to say the least. I didn't see many O-lineman getting downfield to tie up backers, and the perimiter blocking was poor as well. With that combination, it is easy to see why the option running attack never got rolling. Rodel struggled a bit, but I still think that he has too much athletic ability to not be successful. I would like to see a little more downfield passing to perhaps loosen up the Defense, as they were stacking both safeties awfully tight

Defense also showed its inexperience at times, although I didn't think that they played that bad. However, there were way too many missed tackles and broken coverages. Basically they looked young, which they are.

Outlook,  still A LOT of talent on this Cobber squad. I am hoping that this loss wakes up the seniors and they make sure that the game vs BU on the 16th is not a repeat of this showing.  The beauty of this game is it doesn't hurt them at all in the Conference race, and I believe that it doesn't come into account for playoff selections either (PC- correct me if I am wrong)

The Cobbers need to get their stuff together these 2 weeks, but I still think that they havea shot at the MIAC title.

Comments about the BVU vs Bethel game...

The running game was very solid even with Phil out.  The air attack was suspect but almost every incomplete pass was an over throw by Wetzel.  it was mainly in the first half and I'm not to worried.  Maybe a former QB can give some incite on that.

The run defense was especially fun to watch and should be the staple of the team this year.  The pass defense started very slow but really picked it up in the second half.

Overall I would give the teams 13-0 win over BVU a B- with a lot of things to improve on before the game against Simpson.

Very hungry MSUM team........... Maybe an off day for the Cobbers. 3 Picks and a fumble lost doesn't help the offense though. CC has the men to run the ball. Looks like the line needs to open some holes for Johnson to run through. I watched Cory in high school and he was an amazing athlete. He is fast and very shifty. If he gets to the corner he's tough to catch from behind. It seems that CC has things can be fixed and they will be ok.  I still imagine they will compete very well in the MIAC this year. Horan always has them ready when the games mean something i.e. in 3 weeks.

Pat:  It is true, Northwestern had a bad day down in Mount Vernon.  Didn't score in the second half and their gimicky offense combined with a poor showing by the defense led to the loss.  You were just waiting to stick it to me, right?  What happens if Augsburg beats Wartburg who finishes at the top of the IIAC and Northwestern pounds on Augsburg?

If if's and but's were candy and nuts it would be Christmas everyday.
How about these if's:
If SJU would have started all freshmen in their games against Northwestern, SJU still woulda won by 30.
If Northwestern was even as good as a mediocre high school team, they would have beaten Cornell.
If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

Quote from: AO on September 03, 2006, 03:54:40 AMStick up for the little guy once in a while?

Have you noticed Pat has an entire website about little guys in the football world?
He sticks up for the little guy when the little guy is decent or has a chance, not when they are gonna get smoked. If MUC played Ohio State, I don't think Pat would bet the farm on the little guy. Same with Northwestern playing any team outside of the UMAC.

Though today, cornell was the little team that beat Northwestern.

So... the little team that beat the littler team. Kinda like a midget beating the crap out of a dwarf. Neither one stands a chance against a full-sized team with talent.

By the way, don't feel bad about losing to Cornell, they did beat Dubuque (2-8 last year) and Aurora (5-5 last year, 0-3 outside the less than stellar IBC).

I think the talent is there, but the execution wasn't, today.  Let the comparison's against Gustavus, St. Thomas and St. Olaf rest until there is at least a common opponent.  Those would be the middle in the miac, correct?  or maybe the cobbs are in the middle this year, after showing weakness against the occasionally strong msum dragons?

"You think" that would be a nice change.

Comparing NW to the middle of the MIAC? How about they beat or even play a close game against the bottom of the IIAC or bottom of the MIAC before you start dreaming of mediocrity.

Here's the new dangerous pick, Bethel and Northwestern both get nine wins this season, but the Bethel's lone loss will not come by hands of the Johnnies.  They've got to run out of magic sooner or later up in collegeville, right?.....

You heard it hear first, Bethel and NWC will not win a game all season.

As far as running out of magic in Collegeville... Like Chuck Norris' fists, George W with new words, and Fins with Kool-Aid, the well will never run dry.

QuoteOn September 3, 2006, the Twins were facing New York Yankees reliever Mike Myers. Blyleven introduced Myers and commented on his unorthodox submarine delivery by saying: "Myers at six-foot-three, but he throws like a midget."

That is hilarious! Does Neshek throw like a smurf?

Sorry I couldn't make it up Saturday. MrsKR's brothers were home for the day and MrsKR hadn't seen them in months, so we stayed in Spicer.

I WILL be in Gagliardiville this Saturday for the UWRF game.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.
