Here comes the
Pain Train!

Woo Woo!

Sweet pic of the guy who plays linebacker along with Bobby Boucher in the Waterboy!  Must be AO's brother or Dad!

The only latin I know is: ceteris paribus from Economics class and en vino veritas from Tombstone

AO, I mean TDT, your right, but I dont think any of the Bethel posters brought up the Porta injury. For right now, Phil does not matter.   For Bethel right now, St. Johns does not matter.  What matters is winning with the best players available.  St. Johns will matter later, and Bethel will matter to St. Johns.  At least to the players. I will say this, Porta played as well last week as Koefed...

TC

Kofoed winning the award was a clear case of "Tallest midget in the circus"--something I'm sure AO and NWC know something about...

A quick look at "top" offensive performances around the MIAC:

PASSING:
Kofoed, SJU: 23-38-0-1, 300 yards
Penz, STO: 23-39-2-1, 213 yards
Jansen, UST: 19-33-1-2, 211 yards

RUSHING:
Bangs, BU: 28-151, 0 TD
Higgins, STO: 20-110, 1 TD
Andrade, STO: 16-108, 1 TD
Luberts, SJU: 15-54, 2 TDs
Leary, HAM: 11-34, 3 TDs

RECEIVING:
Weber, SJU: 4-109, 0 TD
Seymour, HAM: 3-105, 1 TD
Gearman, SJU: 7-99, 0 TD
Theisen, UST: 6-86, 1 TD

So yeah, nothing really stands out.  In fact, the most remarkable performance might have come from Concordia, who has NO ONE listed above.  Ouch.  STO's top two backs split carries, which really hurt their chances.  I might have picked Bangs, but because Bethel sucks and SJU doesn't, Kofoed isn't a bad choice.

So I listened to the Johnnie Radio Network while fishing on Saturday.  From the sounds of it, St. John's easily could have won by 30+.  The lack of running game is a little scary, but it sounds like the passing game could be unbelievable (what happened to Royce-Diop?) and the defense--while inexperienced--is the same old Johnnie Defense.  That said, UWEC should never have even been in a position to try an on-side kick with a minute and a half left in a one-score game.  Between the UWW game to end last year and this week's game, the last 8 quarters of Johnnie football has been pretty damn sloppy.  It would be a shame to see a talented football team blow a season because of careless errors.

I used to work with Nick Gunderson's older brother (who was a pretty decent TE for SCSU a couple years back).  It sure sounded like he is the real thing.  He was offered scholarships to both SCSU and Mankato (and looked at by a bunch of other D-II schools)--no wonder he ended up at SJU.  Did he look as good as it sounded?  Who were the other notable newcomers?

I'm hoping to be able to make it up to next weekend's game.  I'd ask what I should bring from Mound, but I think Al & Alma's is trying to end its association with football-related soirees...

TC- I regards to newcomers , Joe Luke #48 , a sophmore from Alexandria, MN took snaps on the DL in the Eau Claire game. He was on kick-off last year and this year played on kick-off and return. The kid is an animal. I watched him last year and the first game this year on kick-offs and he has total disregard for his body. He truely gives 110% and will be very good in the future if he can stay healthy.

tmerton- It's University of Wisconsin Whitewater. How do you figure 3 W's?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

TC - "From the sounds of it, St. John's easily could have won by 30+" could be the most absurd and meaningless comment I've heard in a month. C'mon, even you other Johnnies out there have got to back me on this one. The actual score was 15-11, and this guy's saying they EASILY could have routed them by 30+!?!

Among other mysteries of the universe, why is Wisconsin Whitewater abbreviated just WW instead of WWW?  ???

Yeah and another question. Fins you going to sue the makers of Grey Poupon for attacking your kid?
Nah, those Frenchies never pay anyway. Just remember your goggles next time you open mustard. 8)

let's hope this guy never coaches for or against a team  in the MIAC:

I'm pretty sure that guy went to CST.

For some reason, I envisioned him being from Bethel and yelling as he was coming up to the kid "Here's a forearm from Jesus!"

I have mixed feelings on Luke.  He could be awesome, but he seems a bit out of control.  If he can use that towards good (ala Jeremy Hood) he will be a great one.  Otherwise, I don't see him going places.

Jeff Schulte (go Sartell!) looked good.  Shockman also looked good.

A tradition unrivaled...

OB27---

There were enough missed opportunites where that game on Sat could have gotten out of hand.  We obviously didn't take advantage of those though.

15-11 was about the last score I expected to see.  I suspect once the timing comes back on offense we will be looking much better.

I think my biggest surprise from Sat was the defense.  Those guys were laying people out left and right, which was great to see.  As with most Johnnie teams it was nice to see guys who could have easily jogged out the play sticking with blocks and putting bodies on the turf to spring some returns for an extra 10-15 yards and getting wide receivers an extra 5-10 yards on some plays.
I didn't do it....yet.

OB27-
It's not that absurd really. The offensive stats belie the score. SJU, passing mostly, moved the ball but fell down in the red zone numerous times. Clicking like they should, there's at least 3 more touchdowns. So, maybe not 30, but could be.
