The video clip of Monday's NBC Today Show segment about SJU and John Gagliardi is now online at www.gojohnnies.com/football

Thanks.  Great clip.

The next clip in the sequence on MSNBC is the kid who got tackled by the coach.

I'm a little disappointed that we won't get to see the Falcons run the wishbone this weekend.  It'll be interesting to see this "zone offense" that they're touting.  I have a feeling it'll be similar to what we've seen from the Blugolds the past few years, with a bit more emphasis on running the ball.

I think our D will stack up well against it.

What's the plan for Stiftungsfestivities?  I'm gonna toss my vote in to start a bit later this week.  I'll probably be there between 9:00-9:30.

It will be strange to be at the first game that UWRF hasn't run the bone in for over 30 years. It was always fun to watch.

Just ordered the cheese tray for Friday pick-up. If we kill all of it we will be a bunch of backed-up Stiftungsfester's!  :D

Great video. But now I have the Oscar Mayer Weiner song in my head.

Nothing like sitting through a weiner commercial on the internet.

We actually had the Weinermobile fill up at one of our stores a few years ago.

The word on the street is that UW-RF may resemble Northwestern (the Big Ten school) offensively this Saturday. But then again, "zone offense" could resemble a bunch of things...

I don't know, Duff.

I am not trying to stick up for the WIAC, but this UWRF squad is used to playing D-2 schools this time of year.

They'll get after it. I just wonder how well they'll run their new offense.

Miacwatchman,

Thanks for the clarification.  I didn't think you meant that the Johnnies did that.

One other thing Congrats to Coach G.  That is such a neat accomplishment.  Not just for St Johns but that its the midwest.  I hope that other people don't learn how good we have it here (in the midwest) and ruin it for us.  To have a man dedicate his life to an institution is just great.  Not many men like that any more.  He and coach Schipper are made of the same cloth.

Hamline ran a zone running system when Tressel was coach.

We out west have been blessed with quite a few of them, with many moving on recently-- Schipper is certainly in that category, as is Frosty at PLU and Christopherson at Concordia-Moorhead.  Give him about 20 years, and perhaps we could add Steve Johnson to that list (if he wins a playoff game in that time  ;D ).

These are guys who are dedicated to the philosophy and life of their institutions, and instill the same values on fall Saturdays that the institutions teach in the classrooms Monday through Friday.  That they have been given enough rope to do their jobs is testament to the schools themselves, which have traditionally placed academics and strong programs over success on the field, yet somehow these coaches have managed to achieve both.

And while effort and support are helpful, it also takes a bit of dumb luck that he has been given the opportunity to do so, health-wise and wife-wise.

So while Gaglardi's achievement is nice, it is more interesting in my mind to contemplate the next group of these guys-- if we, as fans and alumni, will allow any by not running them off into retirement-- and think to the future of the game.

The more Royals the better!

tmerton, I gotta tell ya.. this was a Top 10 post in my book!  :D

Well, it was the picture next to it that might have brought down the house - google men dancing for images and check the one labeled "men dancing at Kaminabit" (KR - what is that guy's medical condition ???)

That would be the dreaded fake wooden penis attached to the skirt syndrome. Much like the bald-dude-Ferarri-driving syndome, this syndrome is only used as a form of compensation for other areas that are not up to par.

Did anybody hear about KRs first procedure on his first couple days.  Went something like this....   "Get me an Ender nail, and a nail gun, Get me a Cortical Screw, Screwdriver, and throw in a Antiglide Plate,"    But Doctor, Porta has a fracture in his hand?  " Don't Back talk me nurse", and for God sakes, get me a red cup, this guys in a lot of Pain!!!!

KR.  do they alow kilts in the O.R.??

Nope, no kilts in the OR, so I end up wearing a shirt and noose all day with my damn white coat on, gets a bit humid in there.

I'm on a radiology rotation, so I'd maybe see Porta's x-ray but not be involved in his procedure, although I will drink a red cup's worth of bevy tonight to help Porta's pain. Or maybe that's to help my pain from watching Silva pitch :'(

Pat,
Since when did the karma rules get bumped to every 24 hours? I have to wait at least another hour until I can smite AO or applaud BDB, Duff, Fins, ROR, Tmerton, JEsq, OAS, TDT, etc. This is really going to test my ADD.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

BTW: What kinda accomodations did they set you up with while you are in St. Paul?  Might I recommend you call OAS and go over to the Nook (Hamline ave and Randolph ave) some evening for a Nookie Red and a Juicy Lucy.  You'll thank me later.

Has anyone seen "Invincible" yet?  I am trying to decide if I should go see it...

I liked it. Not exactly Oscar worthy, but interesting none the less. :) The football scenes were well done. The open tryout scenes reminded me of when I went to the Football for Women workshop except we had more talent and were more graceful. ;D
