JR and PI,  I'm also bringing wild rice sausages so if you want to bring something else PI, or at least a different flavor, feel free to do so.

I'll fill everyone in on Saturday about my slight mishap last Saturday.  I'm still laughing about it but it best be told in person (or by cell phone late in the evening). :P
Go Johnnies!!!

So what's the M.O. for the Stiftungsfestivities (man, that's a bear to type)... do we all wear a sticker that says: HELLO, I'm [insert Post Patterns moniker ]   ?

I wish!  You never know who you're talking to, and you feel like an idiot if you say "Hi, I'm DuffMan" to someone who's never read Post Patterns before.  :D

I remember my first and only Stiftungfest 2 years ago in Collegeville for Tommie-Johnnie. There was me, the Benchwarmer and I believe Duffman, Retired Old Rat, Willy Wonka, Johnnie Red (of course), Johnnie esq, Frank Rickard and One Armed Scot. Probably an assortment of others but my most vivid memory is Touchdown Tommy calling everyone by their moniker with as much confidence as he would their first name, often times shouting it from a distance to get your attention.

Someone needs to voice record Veek's story and send it to those of us who can't be there.  Maybe we can get johnniepress to put it up on gojohnnies, right next to the link to the Today show video.  ;D

Does anyone thing the Gophers have a fart's chance in the wind at Cal on Saturday?

My office is teeming with Golden Bears who were boasting last week that the "smart money" was on Cal over Tenn.  Seems a lot of that smart money ended up in Tennessee as the bears were dreadful.  ;D

Cal should beat the socks off the rodents but the bears tend to play down to the level of their opponent (more often than they play up), so it might be a good game.  Still, given the talent Cal has and the egg they laid last week, the bears shouldn't lose.

I'm not a big Cal fan, so good luck to the rodents.

Rumor has it Cal is still steamed about the 1964 loss when Murray Warmath brought the Gophers to Berkeley and beat them 26-20.  ;)

While I can't be at the game this weekend, tomorrow night I'll be attending a SJU reception at the Olympic Club here in SF with Bro. Dietrich (and, I presume, Chairman of the Board Whalen, who I understand lives out here, too).  We only received the invitation this week and it had a RSVP due date of 9/1 - you don't think they were trying to avoid having us come, do you?   ;D

They probably heard you were at the Stiftungfestivities last weekend and acquired a taste for Hamms! Knowing it wouldn't be available at the Olympic Club, this was there way of saving the club from an embarrasing situation. ;D

tmerton--thanks for the props. We like this year's schedule better than playing Concordia of St. Paul and Chadron State, both division 2 powers, as openers.

SJU is 130 miles round trip closer than EC. We already play the Johnnies in hockey and bball. What's not to like about it from both schools' aspects? I hope the two year contract gets extended.

fred - question for you.  At the WRF website it lists the 2006 recruits - all 65 of them - but the football roster only lists 11 freshmen (at least one of whom is not on the list of 65 recruits).  What's up with that?  Do you guys have a freshman/jv team or have 54 kids already been cut?

Maybe at the Stiftungsfestivities you guys need to go the route of Lions assistant coach Joe Cullens http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2576743. If you are all hanging out naked (pun intended), I doubt the rent-a-cops would even think to check what is in your red cups! ;D Apparently the first time Cullen was pulled over, though alcohol was involved, he was only given a ticket for driving nude. I am guessing that the cop did not want to conduct a sobriety test on a naked man along the side of the road...an accident waiting to happen. ;)

I don't know for sure, but there are a few things that could be at play here:

1.) WIAC limits its squads' rosters to 100 players.  So each school cannot have more than 100 guys practicing and thus a part of the team.

2.) Grayshirting.  Since redshirting is not allowed at the D3 level, some schools (and I don't know if UWRF is one) will bring in a freshman for preseason practice, determine that they wouldn't play as a frosh anyway, put them on an informal (meaning the team does not supervise) weight training and skills training regimen, and "cut" them off their 100 man roster before the first game of the season.  That way the player gets the preseason practice and gets to improve themselves as a redshirt would during the season, but just cannot participate in practices with the team, and thus gets an "extra" year of eligibility.  The player cannot play on the JV team either.

Two things about this practice-- in the WIAC, where players often take 5 years to graduate, it helps keep players in school and interested; and two, it is completely legal under NCAA rules.

I think this calls for a taping and posting on Stiftungsfestivies.com.  I'll bring my video camera.

I understand that Willy Wonka will be making an appearance in Cville this weekend.  This could only mean one thing...A Battle Royale between Duffman and Wonka.

ROR: Pics of Wonka knocked out cold on Stiffyfest.com would be much appreciated.
