Looks like we're a little banged up this week :'(  From the SC Times:

Quote» Junior linebacker Jeff Schulte will miss Saturday's game with a mild high ankle sprain. Freshman Josh Rose, a Litchfield graduate who played in the state all-star game this summer, is expected to start in his place.

» Junior running back Craig Luberts, who pulled a groin muscle against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has not practiced this week. If he plays Saturday, it will be limited. Juniors Mike Patnode and Aaron Blackmore are expected to rotate at the position.

» Steffensmeier sat out practice Tuesday and Wednesday with a bruised knee, but said it was just precautionary. He returned Thursday and is expected to play Saturday.

» Junior tight end Brett Saladin, who left last week's game after being shaken up while making a reception, practiced Tuesday and Wednesday, but experienced neck spasms following Wednesday's practice and underwent an MRI Thursday. He will not play Saturday. Senior Matt Keating will start at the position. Senior Adam Demarais, a reserve defensive lineman who slightly separated a shoulder last week, is also questionable.

tmerton--the 65 freshmen listed are this year's frosh. Those on the football roster were freshmen last year. The roster is from 2005.

Fred - Well, since some of the frosh on the roster match up with some of the 65 frosh listed for the recruiting class, I'm not sure that's completely accurate.  Anyway, how do you fit 65 frosh into a 100 person limit for the team?   ???

It is pretty common for 100 man rosters in the WIAC to be heavily loaded with freshman.  Coaches are more likely to cut upperclassman who have been with program a few years and have been given the opportunity to develop and earn playing time but who have not and who the  coaches know, never will.  Unfortunate but a reality of the limited roster.  Incoming freshman are aware of this reality and know they are taking more of a chance in the WIAC than on a,  "no-cut" roster.

It's not football but the MIAC lost a pretty accomplished swimmer Sunday night in Carleton's Ted Mullin who lost a battle to synovial cell sarcoma.  (KR can describe this cancer)

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers as you enjoy MIAC athletics this weekend.

DuffMan - that actually is the highlight of my career: Bethel & SJU both undefeated, us having never beaten them in the history of our school, me intercepting Stanger's pass with :39 left on the clock to seal the deal... I guess beating the Johnnies again the next year was a highlight too, but the first time's always the best. I wish I could say winning a playoff game or a national championship was my highlight, but I can't.

Duffman,

Yeah that "little banged up sounds a whole lot like "Blake Elliott being banged up before the Stagg in '03"  and we all know how that turned out.
If ya see the guy in a body cast, on a stretcher with tubes sticking out of his nose and IV's in the arms........but he is on the sidelines, I wouldn't rule him out.

I am looking forward to seeing the the '06 version Saturday. Homework assignment you know.

Burgers anyone?

How is the press luncheon coming?

See ya Saturday.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Well, that was the point/question in the original post - the roster only lists 11 freshmen of the 65 signed - hardly a roster "heavily loaded" with freshmen.

My-bad for coming in late on the conversation.  Just trying to answer the last question you asked. Took it out of context, I guess.  Johnnie_esq must be right.  They must have grey-shirted a ton of freshman.

Tmerton, did they serve Hamms at the Olympic Club last night for your get together? ;D

Sumander is technologically challenged, thus no picture will be forthcoming
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

The reception is tonight.  But they're as likely to serve Hamm's as the Hamm's bear is to show up to serve drinks.
