I could easily be proven wrong but Concordia is not a program that starts out 0-2 and only score 14 points in 2 games.  Most years they handle Moorhead.  Bethel's defense may indeed be tough and the Johnnies do have to make the trip up to Moorhead but I don't see SJU losing this weekend.  In 3 games the SJU defense has only allowed 20 points and the offense has scored 156.  I realize that 2 of the teams were poor to say the least....I just know the SJU defense as well as the offense improves every game.

A couple thoughts on the BU - CC game.

The Bethel D was good, but it was more of the cobbers shooting themselves in the foot.  CC was in the red zone 5-6 times it seemed and could never get anything out of it.  Rodel also made some poor throws and some bad reads on the option.  We only made it to the pitch on the option 9-10 times...it was hard to watch.

We also have a pretty young secondary - which BU picked on throughout the day, especially on 3rd downs.  This may be my persistent dislike for Bethel talking, but I don't think they're as great as some may think.  The cobbs are off to a tough start and will need to make some personel changes if they're going to have a chance this weekend.  But based on the way the games have gone the last few years, I'll still expect to see a great game.
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

If there's one thing I've learned from March madness pools, never bet against a woman in any form, they will win despite any apparent lack of knowledge on the subject.

From personal experience I can absolutely confirm that to be the case.  Another of the mysteries of life.

I'll add that to my list of mysteries of life along with the other long pondered never solved quandries of my life:
1. Why do plastic bullets and flower covered plastic wrappers appear in the bathroom trash one week a month?
2.  Why do the fattest women insist on trying to wear the smallest clothes?
3.  How come the same kind of beer from the same case that tasted awesome at 2AM tastes horrible at 9AM?
4.  Why don't cops have to follow traffic laws about turn signals, complete stops, and red lights even when they don't have their cherries blazin?
5.  How come every politician promises to cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, and solve all of our problems but they never do?
6.  How come all political ads are about how horrible the other guy/gal is? No matter who wins in most elections I feel like the better bum won and that he/she is still gonna suck.
7.  Why does every politician feel the need to say something to the effect of "I'm for a better, stronger, safer America."? Wow, now that you mention it, Mr Politician I am too. I'd definitely rather vote for you than your opponent who obviously wants a sh*ttier, weaker, more dangerous America.

KR, I continue to think you're wasting your talent in medical school.  At the same time, please don't even think of going to law school after you finish.  The last thing the world needs is another doctor/lawyer.  You might, however, consider trying for the White House Fellows program - we do need more politicians!   ;D

I think that tha most fitting description of the Cobber vs Royal game is "Uff-da."  Not good.  Offense was stagnant at best.  In all actuality the defense was not that bad. 21 points given up to a good offense. Obvioiusly their were mistakes, and the defensive backfield still scares the crap out of me, but still it was only 21 points.

Offensively... I really don't know what to say. It is easy to point fingers at the QB, and yes he deserves some blame, but it is everyone.  The O-line needs to become the strength of this team, which they are not right now, the receivers also need to have better blocking on the perimeter to make the option game go. And the running backs need to break a couple tackles and bust a big one sometime.

Here's the scary thing though, thsi team has enough talent to beat anyone (SJU included) however, they need to put it together and play to their abilities.  There needs to be a spark, a big play, a big TO by the Defense, an amazing run by the offense, something to get everyone believing again.  I know that this team had very high hopes and expectations.  They are in a tough spot right now and they can go 1 of 2 ways. They can totally feel sorry for themselves and tank it this week and basically pack in hte season, or they can play with unmatched pride and confidence and let their talent come out and get a season changing/saving win this saturday. Needless to say I am interested to see how they respond.

Johnnie Fans: Pass the word along, let's fill up Jake Christianson Stadium this saturday. It's family weekend up here so with a little help from our friends in red we can fill it to the brim. With the last two meetings fresh in all of our minds, it should be a great game on saturday.

Go Cobbs!!

Sad to say, I won't be able to attend.  80th birthday party for my grandpa, and I'm afraid that trumps this game (somehow, they ignored my request to have it on another weekend >:().

Should be a great game.  I'll be listening for radio and cell phone updates.

If the Cobbers can't get more than 2 yards on first down, it will be a long day for the Maroon and Gold on Saturday. I saw that as the Cobbers' primary problem against Bethel. The Royals put together a nice game, especially on defense. If the Cobbers could even sqeak out 3-4 yards on first down instead of 0-2, the offensive dynamics change dramatically.

Despite the rought start, Concordia does appear to have the guns necessary to get the job done. I don't expect the CC-SJU game to be any different from the past few. You know the Cobbers will be fired up (home opener, family weekend, and it's the Johnnies).
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

I just have to chime in on this vaunted Bethel defense that we've been hearing about.  Now, I'm sure Bethel's D is good, but come on, look at who they have played.  They shut out a Buena Vista team that is 0-2 and averaging 1.5 ppg, they gave up 17 to Simpson which is 0-3 and avg. 13 ppg, and they gave up 7 to Concordia who is 0-2 and avg. 7 ppg.  To me anyways, I don't know if it's the defense so much as it is the teams they've played.  Just my $.02.

Here's what I saw from BUs defense on saturday: Good team speed and oppurtunistic.  Are they the best in the conference?? I don't think so.  The plays they made were very much due to Rodel throwing into Double coverage.

Hey I might be wrong at the end of the year, but I hope not.
