SUMMIT!!!!!

As someone who has seen both SJU & BU play, and both against tough opponents (UWEC & CC), I will say this much-- BOTH the Johnnies & Royals have very solid teams on both sides of the ball.

BU's defense was able to shut down CC's running game, and they have a veteran, talented secondary/linebackers. Their offense is predominantly "Porta" but they pass well. Wetzell has a cannon for an arm.

SJU's defense is equally solid, a little less experienced, but that will be a moot point by Nov. They handle the run well, which is crucial to success against BU. The Johnnie o-line is solid, giving Kofoed ample time to find his receivers, and he has plenty of good ones to choose from.

As a totally neutral observer, I am looking forward to the battle between these 2 in Nov...barring injuries between now and then, it has the potential to be as exciting and well-played of a game as their meeting in 2003, which is one of the 5 best college football games I've ever seen.

Finally—I've had the pleasure to meet some incredible people from every school in the MIAC. We all are fortunate to be surrounded by such a wealth of classy people.  While we will always pull for our alma mater/favorite teams, let's not forget that the guys/gals on the other side are very often good friends of the players we're so rabidly supporting. You see it after every MIAC game—old friends, who were opponents during the game, enjoying each other's company after the game, wishing each other well. Maybe we fans should learn from this (heaping abuse on AO & NWC is still acceptable when he spouts off his nonsense that NWC can hold its own in the MIAC  ;D)

Disclaimer: I haven't read the last few pages. Apologies if this was already pointed out or if I'm too late on jumping on the bandwagon here.

Isn't Scrubby41 the old guy who came on here asking our thoughts about coaching at Bethel last year? No wonder he thought they looked sweet on Saturday.

Wait wait wait, tell me again about how you used to coach and know what to look for while watching a game. I didn't catch it the first four times you mentioned it  ::)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

TC, there will be an official gathering at Mick's before the game on Saturday for Cobber and Johnnie fans. Shoot for 9:30-10:00 a.m. to get the event going. Can anyone from Cobberland give us directions on how to find Mick's Office? I know miacmaniac will be making an appearance.

Assuming you are coming from the South (I-94):

Continue North on 8th st./HWY 75 past the Jake. about 1 mile past the JAke you will hit the intersection with Main Ave. Mick's is one more block north and on the right hand side (shares a parking lot with Taco John's).  Enjoy

Yeah, it's kind of like if I said before every post: As you know, I used to hold the clipboard and play when we were up by 30...

I don't know exactly what you mean by "hold its own", but Northwestern did squash the upset bid of Augsburg a couple Saturdays ago.

What I really like about this board is that you don't have to come even close to saying that your team is better than the Johnnies in any aspect to get all of the alums spouting off defenses left and right about a teams lack of postseason success 5 years ago.
Scrubby: When did you play football?  Must have been one of the early Northwestern squads?

Scrubby-
Sorry for your loss. Keep stirring the pot, though. It keeps things interesting. And don't be shy about tossing a little back once in a while. Flinging dung on this board is one of my favorite pastimes.

Man, I sure am jonesing for some spinach.

I can't speak to the whole gay-Bethel-no dance-Bennies-UST-SJU-Cobber wrestling match.

But I can speak about Mick's Office!

I spent my freshman and sophomore years attending the University of Mick's Office. 'Er, Moorhead State.  :D

M & G, Is it still in the same place by the railroad tracks or did they move it to a building that might still be standing today?

They used to have 15 cent beer tap specials.  ;)

Mick's did relocate. I recall 50 cent taps and Mick's burgers on Saturdays back when...

New location looks more traditional, if not non-descrpt as a bar compared to the old shack literally on the railroad tracks. While the threat of a passing train still exists, the new spot is less thrilling to natural selection theorists.

Thanks corn, I'll have to check it out next time through.

Speaking of natural selection theorists, a bunch of the time when us "college boys" were schweeling it up in there it was amongst a lot of biker dudes.

Sometimes it did get interesting. Sounds like the kind of place now that the bikers might ride by.

Unless things have changed, Micks used to open up at 11:00 AM - someone from the Land of 10,000 Power Lines may need to confirm.  I have a wedding in Alexandria on Saturday - I'm trying to play the angle where I get to go to the game and speed down to the reception but it isn't working very well.

M&G - How is everyone's favorite 9-man team doing this year?

Let's face it, Johnnies are always going to think SJU is the best, Cobbers are always going to think CC is the best, and Royals are always going to be socially awkward and maladjusted.

Not true...I would be the first to admit my team isn't the best.  And, once, I met a Bethel grad who seemed to fall within the boundaries of social normalcy...once.  :D

MIACWATCHMAN, I do not agree with you.  I was at all 3 games that BU played and Simpson is a solid football team, and I believe BV will have a decent season in a very tough conference.   Then  to say the Cobbers faced a basement dweller there first game is wrong.  MSU Moorhead is no patsy, and neither is Bethel.  Johnnie-esq, now you I agree with.  You are on the money on your assesment of the BU team so far.  Now do understand that I am not complimenting you, because as you know from TDT, when Bethel is having a half way decent year, we BU posters start with the backhanded compliments to our foes... :'(

RA- MSUM is a cellar Dweller if I have ever seen one in my life. They maybe be D-2 but that doesn't matter when you have won 2 games in three years!! The cobbers seem like a down team, Buena Vista is a .500 team and Simpson may be the a over .500 team. I'm not attacking the BU defense but in my mind it doesn't show that they have faced an excellent team.
